Hi,

Right now, together with dozens of young people, we are lying on the floor of the European Parliament.

This is the first “die-in” in the Parliament’s history. Its purpose? To expose the cost of our leaders’ inaction against climate emergency.

And only one thing can bring our demonstrators back to life: knowing that Europe’s 27 new leaders will do everything they can to fight global warming.

These leaders haven’t yet fully secured their power -- their future is in the hands of our representatives, Members of the European Parliament. This gives us a big opportunity to get them on our side.

To do this, we need your help. There are several MEPs who could tip the balance in our favour. But, due to pressure from many polluting lobbies, we could lose their support for climate action.

The vote is in a week. Today, we are taking this extraordinary action in the European Parliament to pile on the pressure. Please stand with us and amplify our calls, so that the world knows what’s happening right now:

Science tells us we have just 11 years to avoid the worst effects of climate breakdown. Amongst them: extreme heat, droughts and floods. [1]

There is good news too: the same scientists tell us that we already have access to key solutions that can curb the damages of climate change. We should match the ambitions of the Paris Climate agreement, phase-out fossil fuels, and massively finance the climate and energy transition.

But we can’t wait: we have to act now.

In a few days, the European Parliament is voting on our new European leaders - 27 new Commissioners. So together we’re pressing our MEPs to make sure these commissioners will be climate heroes. And we’re deliberately targeting very influential MEPs with our tweets.

By focusing on some key members of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), Green and Renew (Liberals) groups of MEPs, together we can persuade them to reject the commission for its conservative action on the climate emergency. If we convince these MEPs, their majority will be enough to reject the Commission in favour of real climate action.

This is not the first time our community has joined forces to tell MEPs we can’t wait any longer for them to act on this crisis. [2] Last month, we joined marches throughout Europe with the climate strikers, and organised a powerful sit-in in the European Parliament.

And we will keep taking action until we build a future that puts people and planet first. Today, let’s take action to make sure our MEPs are real climate heroes, and are dedicated to taking serious action against climate disaster.
