      Historically high temperatures, droughts and raging wildfires - we’re in a climate breakdown and our leaders are failing to act. The UN Secretary-General has just written to EU leaders asking them to step up their efforts, let’s supercharge his call and demand that they act now.

Hi,

Temperatures are soaring to historic highs this summer - ravaged by drought, wildfires are raging from France to Poland. [1] This climate breakdown has even set the Arctic on fire!! [2] Scientists are warning that this will be the new normal unless our leaders start acting like there’s an emergency. [3]

Next month, world leaders are meeting in New York to put forward ambitious commitments to tackle the climate crisis - right now the EU is lagging behind and planning to go empty-handed! [4] This would be a massive blow to global efforts and put us on course to catastrophe.

Now is the perfect time to push for serious climate action. The UN Secretary-General has just written to the EU with an urgent ask that they get serious and show desperately needed leadership. [5] Together we can supercharge his call and demand that our leaders cancel their summer vacations to hold an emergency climate summit to deal with this crisis:

Yes, the Arctic is on fire. No, this is not science fiction. This is life on our planet right now, and it’s about to get a whole lot worse if governments don’t start taking radical action.

The world is looking to Europe - with Trump pulling out of the Paris agreement, and Brazil’s Bolsonaro taking a chainsaw to the Amazon - global leadership is needed to steer us away from further climate breakdown. [6] [7]

And there is hope. Last month, Finland assumed the presidency of the EU, and they’re committed to making climate action a hallmark of their presidency. In fact, the Finish prime minister said he wants to turn the EU into a climate hero. [8] That - along with hundreds of new MEPs entering the Parliament on a ‘green wave’ - means we’ve never been in a better position to push for serious climate action.

So let’s call our leaders back from their holidays and demand they meet urgently to form a plan to take on this climate emergency.
