Hi,
“It’s so encouraging to see young people determined to take to the streets.”
This was my friend Paula yesterday as she shared her experience of joining a
meeting of grassroots groups from across Europe. She was hopeful and excited
about the wave of climate action being led by youth, and all the people they’re
bringing with them!
I too have been inspired by the calls being led by the climate strikers and
have been looking for ways our movement can act in solidarity with them.
Through our partners in South-Eastern Europe, we know activists there lack
resources to get going in the same way they have been doing in the UK,
Germany and Belgium: organising can be costly!
To fight the climate crisis we need strong movements all over Europe! As a
European community, we are well equipped to support mobilisations where they
are needed in Europe.
We’ll kickstart our support plan the minute we have the budget, and your
enthusiasm for it. To start we need at least 17,000 euros over the next 6
months - the minimum to arrange to meet activists on the ground, run
baseline research, and support actions. Would you start a regular donation
to make this a reality?
Yes, I’ll donate to bring the wave of climate action to every
corner of Europe!
Across the world, movements are gearing up for a big moment - a global
strike for climate. Next month, between 20 and 27 September, thousands of
actions will be springing up - we’ll share details of the nearest action to
you soon.
Checking the map of planned actions in Europe, it is obvious where more
mobilising power is needed. Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and other
South-Eastern European countries -- there are some active groups, but their
political and economic circumstances are difficult.
To fight the climate crisis, we need to see people calling for change all
across Europe - that’s why it’s our community’s responsibility to help those
who are ready to spring to action. We’ve run an initial consultation with
groups in the region, and their first reactions are promising.
They’ve told us they need things like:
a.. Resources to organise meetings across borders in their region, to get
coordinated and make the most of their limited resources;
b.. Expertise on how to boost their public messaging, and make this crisis
resonate with everyone;
c.. Money to pay for basic expenses to travel to action sites, or
materials for props and banners.
There’s no time to waste - we need to make a move now. With your support
behind this, we can supercharge movements across Europe. Will you start a
regular donation to make this a reality?
Yes, I’ll donate to bring the wave of climate action to every
corner of Europe!
As you read this, thousands of people like Paula are preparing - props,
liaising with neighbours, getting permits to march, designing banners - to
be ready for action this September. We’ll be joining them, and we hope with
your help we can make sure everyone, no matter where in Europe they live, is
able to fight for our planet whatever the circumstance.
Thank you for helping to build a truly pan-European wave of climate action,
Virginia and the whole We Move Europe team
PS. You are part of We Move Europe because you believe in transnational
solidarity. This is an exciting opportunity to give support in bringing the
wave of climate action to all corners of Europe. It’ll take a great deal of
work, but if each one of us gives a few euros, it doesn’t have to cost the
earth. Donate now!
WeMove.EU is a citizens’ movement, campaigning for a better Europe; for a
European Union committed to social and economic justice, environmental
sustainability and citizen-led democracy. We are people from all walks of
life, who call Europe our home whether we were born in Europe or elsewhere.
