Importance: High
To: National focal points of the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention) and stakeholders
Dear colleagues,
We would like to bring to your attention a call for ongoing public consultations with the deadline of 23 March 2025 issued by the UN/CEFACT secretariat regarding the draft UNECE – UN/CEFACT Recommendation No. 49 Transparency at scale:
https://uncefact.unece.org/display/uncefactpublicreview/Public+Review+2%3A+Recommendation+No.+49%3A+Transparency+at+Scale
On the public review page, you will find enclosed:
a.. The draft Recommendation (version 1.6);
b.. The comments log for comments and input.
Prepared under auspices of the project “Transparency at scale: digital solutions for trust - resilience and sustainability” back in 2023, this Recommendation has emerged in response to an increasing demand for policy action to enhance the trustworthiness, accuracy, and verifiable integrity of sustainability product claims and corporate disclosures. The Recommendation aims to provide guidance to countries on the implementation of scalable supply chain traceability, transparency and trust frameworks that will enhance sustainability and resilience. The comments received will be consolidated and reflected in the final draft of the Recommendation, scheduled to be submitted to the 31st UN/CEFACT Plenary of 3-4 July 2025 at Palais des Nations in Geneva, for discussion and adoption by member States.
You may recall that this topic has been considered during the thematic session on access to information at the twenty-sixth meeting of the Working Group of the Parties, International Workshop on Access to Product Information and ninth meeting of the Task Force on Access to Information.
We therefore would like to take this opportunity and encourage you to submit your possible comments and to liaise with UN/CEFACT focal points in your countries regarding this activity.
For any questions or needs for further clarifications, please kindly reach out to the project lead Ms. Dr. Susanne Guth-Orlowski (just at 4therecord.io), with copy to the Secretariat, Ms. Maria Teresa Pisani (maria-teresa.pisani at un.org), Ms. Kamola Khusnutdinova (kamola.khusnutdinova at un.org) and Ms. Amelia Joseph (amelia.joseph at un.org).
Best regards,
Aarhus Convention secretariat
