23 endangered species are now extinct. Their endangered cousins
could follow fast.

Twenty-three endangered species just crossed a threshold
of no return: they are now listed as extinct. The U.S.'s largest woodpecker,
the ivory-billed woodpecker, as well as Bachman's warbler, eight species of
freshwater mussels, two species of fish, one species of fruit bat, and more
have all crossed the veil into the Other Side, permanently. Worse still,
scientists fear many more endangered species could be about to follow in
these same ghostly, vanishing footsteps.
These 23 species represent what scientists who spoke to
The Washington Post are calling "an accelerating rate of extinction" across
the globe. And it's no mystery why this acceleration is occurring, or why
these particular species went extinct. This is all unambiguously due to
habitat loss and climate change. These 23 species are essentially the wild
versions of a canary in a coal mine. With their silence, they are signaling
the start of a terrifying new era of rapid extinctions, which is rushing
right at us. We must heed their now-quiet call. The Biden administration
must redouble its efforts to save the endangered species we have left, and
strengthen policies that fight climate change!
Thank you for all that you do,
Miranda

P.S. These endangered species have already disappeared. We
have to save the other animals, and fast. Sign the petition.
