On Wednesday, MEPs will vote on whether to make the coronavirus
recovery plan green, or give a blank cheque to fossil fuel polluters. Join
in to turn up the pressure and make MEPs do the right thing, before it’s too
late.

      TAKE ACTION
What matters more: big business or the next generation? On Wednesday, that’s
the decision that MEPs will have to make when they decide whether to back a
green recovery from the pandemic.

They could vote for a plan that writes a blank cheque to fossil fuel
companies. Or, they could demand a green recovery that moves us into the
future, which redesigns our economies, protects our children, and our
planet.

But polluting big business will be working hard to pressure them to vote for
fossil fuels. With highly paid lobbyists and expert negotiators, they’ll be
doing all they can to get a plan that suits their interests, in disregard
for our climate and our future.

Whatever they vote, they will be doing it in our name, Vladimir. They are
our representatives. And they rely on our votes to stay in their job. So, if
we turn up the pressure, there’s a good chance they back a plan to move us
towards clean and renewable energy.

Can you contact an MEP - on email, Twitter telling them to lock fossil fuel
companies out of the COVID recovery plan?

Last July, EU leaders agreed on a massive recovery plan worth hundreds of
billions of euros [1]. There are good elements within it. 30% of the money
is saved for action on climate change. But they failed to exclude oil, gas
and coal industries from this historic plan. If the rest - nearly three
quarters - goes into industries that include fossil fuels, it’s one step
forward and two steps back.

There are already some MEPs who are pushing hard for a green recovery. Green
MEPs want to put fossil fuels in the past. But fossil fuel companies are
fighting for their survival - so they’re doing all they can to persuade
other MEPs to make sure they get a chunk of the coronavirus recovery money.

These other MEPs need a strong signal from their voters that we’ll support
them if they vote for a green recovery - can you contact an MEP and ask them
to back a recovery that safeguards our future?

We know that when WeMove members work together, we can convince MEPs to
stand up for what’s right. In November last year, we teamed up with
organisations across Europe to convince the parliament to declare a climate
emergency.

This crisis can bring out the worst, but also the best: it can be the
tipping point for radically changing the rules and building a fairer and
greener Europe. Can you tell an MEP to do the right thing, and back a green
recovery plan?

With solidarity,

David (London), Alex (Marseille), Marta (Warsaw) and the entire WeMove
Europe team
