                              What is it?
a.. Earlier today, Russia’s leading opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned and is currently in a coma receiving medical attention. Navalny was flying to Moscow and it is suspected that the Kremlin is behind the attack, but the Kremlin denies the allegations and wish Mr. Navalny “a speedy recovery”.
b.. The Kremlin has also denied interfering in U.S. elections. However, the Senate Intelligence Committee released its final report on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election which details the multi-faceted effort made by the Kremlin to alter the outcome of U.S. elections.
                              Why is it important?
a.. The Russian government has clearly put itself in direct opposition to the ideas of democratic governance domestically and in its foreign policy. Time and time again, agents of the Russia state have attempted to undermine the democratic choices of citizens around the world to promote their own agenda.
b.. This is not the first instance of the Russian government using poison for a political end. Journalist and opposition activist Vladimir Kara-Murza has been poisoned twice and suffered similar symptoms including a coma.
                              What can you do?
