Take 5 minutes to call an MEP to tell them to only confirm the new European Commission if they can guarantee to face the climate emergency with bold action.

      CALL AN MEP NOW
Hi,

We’re living through a climate emergency and real action is needed to steer us to safety and to protect us from the most terrifying effects of rising global temperatures. But in Europe, it’ll only happen if the 27 new candidates hoping to be appointed to lead the European Commission take climate change seriously.

In a few days, MEPs will decide whether to accept the nomination of these candidates: we’re asking them to reject any candidate for the EU Commission who is not committed to declaring a climate emergency.

A quick phone call is an incredibly powerful way to get a message directly to MEPs. By flooding their offices with calls, we can tell them how important taking action to avoid complete climate breakdown is to us all. And we know hearing from members of the public is not something they’re used to so it's bound to get their attention.

It will take just a few minutes, but we’ve made it really easy and given you tips on what you could say.

If voted through, the new EU Commissioners will serve for the next 5 years. These will be absolutely crucial years - they will be the make or break for the future of our planet. Scientists have said again and again that we can either rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions or lock ourselves into climate and environmental breakdown. [1]

But there’s still enough time. The EU can kick off a green transition by phasing out fossil fuels and investing in a green and fair transition. And the EU has huge global influence and responsibility - if it starts moving it can generate further action around the world. But this won’t happen without strong leadership in the European Commission.

In days, MEPs will assess the people who want to become new European Commissioners and ask them probing questions. [2] Can you call an MEP involved in this decision and ask them to reject any candidate who won’t meet this climate emergency with bold action?

It’s quick and easy -- click and call an MEP!

It might feel a bit scary to dial a number and wait to speak to an MEP or someone in their office. But MEPs represent us -- it’s their job to listen. It’s these small acts of courage from people like you that will make a difference for our world. When you make a call to an MEP today, you won’t be alone. Thousands of us across Europe are with you.

[2] 20 MEPs will be key in the decision process around the Commissioner hearings. As a body, the European Parliament represents the overall EU citizens. This is why we are targeting those MEPs and making sure that they hear from people in the language they speak, rather than just from their 'electorate'"
