                              41st Congress of the Nonviolent Radical Party, 
Transnational and Transparty (NRPTT) will be held in Rome from 5 to 7 July 
2019 at Auditorium Antonianum (viale Manzoni 1) beginning on Friday 5th July 
at 11 am.


                       On May 21st Roberto Giachetti, PD deputy, suspended 
his thirst strike for the life of Radio Radicale started at midnight on 
Thursday May 16th and he is continuing the nonviolent initiative with the 
hunger strike. Maurizio Bolognetti, who had suspended his hunger strike 
after 78 days on May 16, resumed the non-violent initiative on May 24.


                              294 citizens are participating in the 
non-violent initiative with a few days of hunger strike for the life of 
Radio Radicale.

                       On 30 May 2019 the African Continental Free Trade 
Area (AfCFTA) come into force on the 22nd ratification. The agreement aims 
to increase trade between African states and to accelerate the progress of 
regional and continental integration by creating the largest free area trade 
in the world, both in terms of the number of countries involved (52 
countries have signed the agreement) and by extension.

                              According to the Un Economic Commission for 
Africa (ECA), if all 55 African countries join a free trade area, it will be 
the world’s largest by number of countries, covering more than 1.2 billion 
people and a combined GDP of $2.5 trillion. The ECA adds that intra-African 
trade is likely to increase by 52.3% by 2020 under the AfCFTA.

                       Syria. Over the past week, airstrikes, shelling and 
ground fighting intensified across the de- militarized zone in northwest 
Syria, exacerbating the impact of the conflict on civilians, civilian 
infrastructure, and humanitarian service provision in northern Hama, 
southern Idleb, and western Aleppo governorates. According the United 
Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), almost 
270,000 displacements from northern Hama and southern Idleb governatores 
were recorded between 1 and 22 may. Ursula Mueller, Assistant 
Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief 
Coordinator, told the Security Council “Idlib is the last example of an 
entirely known, predictable, and preventable humanitarian disaster”.

                       European Ombudsman has published the Annual Report 
for 2018.
                              The office has seen a strong increase in 
complaints from citizens, civil society, businesses and media. This year was 
notable “for the use of one of the Ombudsman’s infrequently used powers”: 
that of submitting a Special Report to the European Parliament which 
concerning the accountability of the Council of the European Union. “As the 
public has a right to know how their governments contribute to the making of 
EU legislation”, European Ombudsman asked the European Parliament to support 
its proposals to improve legislative transparency in the Council.
                              17.996 people helped by the European Ombudsman 
in 2018.
                              The highest number of complaints registered by 
the European Ombudsman in 2018 came from Spain (393), followed by Germany 
(186), the United Kingdom (186), Poland (179), Belgium (174), France (132) 
and Italy (116).
