*[Enwl-eng] Are we louder than climate deniers?

Hi,

In November, pseudo-scientist climate deniers were invited to an official press conference by some MEPs to promote the following message: “there is no climate emergency.” [1]

In the same week, after intensive fundraising and planning, we managed to *crash* the European Parliament together with youth activists, staging a dramatic die-in just to make sure our leaders would hear our message: “do something about the climate emergency - NOW”. [2]

What’s wrong with this picture? Pseudo-scientist climate deniers are being invited to spread false messages while those of us fighting for our future need to show up uninvited and resort to last-minute protests just to get a seat at the table.

We know it’s not always easy to make sure we’re heard, especially when well-funded multinational industry lobbies are fighting to do the same. But we also know that the European Parliament elected last May is made up of mostly new MEPs (61% of the 751 MEPs are new). [3] They are just now starting to determine who they will listen to over the next five years of their mandate, which is why we are constantly building new ways to reach our elected representatives.

Will you donate just a few cents per MEP each month – to supercharge the ways our community can reach our representatives in this crucial phase?

      Donate 2¢ per MEP monthly
      Donate 3¢ per MEP monthly
      Donate 4¢ per MEP monthly
      Donate another amount monthly

If everyone in our community donates just a few cents for every MEP each month, we’d have the resources our community needs to reach MEPs with the messages that matter most, and make sure that citizens’ voices are heard over industries’.

Together our community has already worked tirelessly to reach our MEPs. We’ve developed the online tools we need to bring our messages directly to our representatives, and we’ve used these tools in the most important moments for European democracy. And by doing so we’ve made big waves in the European Parliament! Just in the last year:

a.. MEPs voted to ban some single-use plastics and make plastic polluters pay following actions and advocacy from a wide coalition of civil society partners. Our community alone sent almost 100,000 emails to our MEPs! [4]
b.. MEPs voted to overhaul the rules on transparency for potentially toxic pesticides, additives, and other food products after the successful European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) our community coordinated. [5] When some MEPs threatened to water-down the legislation, our community sent thousands of tweets and over half-a-million emails to MEPs. The lead MEP for the new law even resigned when she couldn’t get MEPs to support her negative changes! [6]
c.. MEPs even voted to increase transparency of their own offices as a result of a campaign run by civil society, progressive MEPs, and our WeMove Europe, during which our community sent thousands of tweets directly to key MEPs involved! [7]
The work we have done together to connect people with their MEPs via email and social media has been made possible by the generosity of this community. But now, this new European Parliament will be around for 5 years and along the way we need to keep working on new ways to reach them – from phone calls to on-the-ground actions and community delegations to MEP offices.

Will you donate just a few cents per MEP – every month – to supercharge the ways our community can reach our representatives in this crucial phase?

      Donate 2¢ per MEP monthly
      Donate 3¢ per MEP monthly
      Donate 4¢ per MEP monthly
      Donate another amount monthly

Now is the time to scale up, not down. We need to keep up the pressure on MEPs to secure a Real Green Deal, to fix our broken asylum system, and change European society for the better. Please donate just a few cents for every MEP, and help power our work to make sure our representatives represent us -- not multinational corporations.

Thank you,
David and the entire team at WeMove Europe
