Министерства лесного хозяйства ТССР создан как природоохранное
научно-исследовательское учреждение, включающее в поле деятельности
физико-географический регион – Западный Копетдаг. Основными задачами
заповедника являются сохранение, комплексное изучение и восстановление
экосистем Западного Копетдага, особенно, растительного и животного
