  Using long-term archives of satellite data, researchers from the 
Department of Satellite Monitoring Technologies of the IKI RAS have compiled 
a map reflecting the loss of forests from fires in the northern regions of 
the Earth in the 21st century.

  Attention to the circumpolar territories today is largely due to global 
climate change. Northern forests, in particular, are one of the most 
important batteries and at the same time sources of carbon dioxide, which 
plants accumulate during their life and release after death.
