Eurasianet Launching Environmental Information and Analysis
Initiative

Starting on October 1, 2024, Eurasianet will implement a
year-long networking and content-production
initiative to help hard facts to
drive public debates on key environmental issues in the South Caucasus
and
Black Sea regions.

Our project is designed to bridge an existing
gap in scholarly research, information dissemination and grass-
roots
advocacy by harnessing the collective energy of experts, journalists and NGO
representatives. This will
lead to a greater degree of coordination in the
production of evidence-based content, without trespassing on the
boundary
that divides journalism and activism. In effect, this project seeks to become a
“citation” machine,
producing content that activists can point to in support
of advocacy initiatives.

Our aim is to help foster the creation of an
enduring transnational network of stakeholders, capable of better
mobilizing
public attention on addressing critical environmental challenges.

Helping
network participants improve their communications skills will be a key component
of our work. Our
skills-building component will feature a blend of online and
offline workshops and intensive coaching.
Participants will have
opportunities to publish information and analysis concerning their research
on
Eurasianet and with other media outlets.

Our in-person workshops
are designed to help network participants, especially non-journalists, craft
content that
can achieve wider reach and impact with a general reading
audience. Workshops will cover such topics as;
Structuring content for a
mass audience
Ways to streamline writing for clarity
Highlighting key
analytical points
Keeping your data as secure as possible

Our focus
will be on filling knowledge gaps on the intersections of climate change,
poverty, food security, and
public health across the Caucasus and Black Sea
regions. The project will also strive to raise awareness
about
sustainable economic development and a rational “green-energy”
transition.

Interested in joining our network?

Please email
Eurasianet publisher Justin Burke for further information about
next
