protect our planet and us all from the accelerating
climate crisis.</P>

is the world’s deadliest country for land and
environmental defenders, with 60 deaths last year alone.
Despite commitments to protect defenders, <B>this figure
has nearly doubled from 2021</B>.</P>

Amazon Rainforest is also among the most dangerous
places for defenders, constituting more than one in five
of all defender killings worldwide. The figure of 39
deaths in the Amazon includes Brazilian indigenous
expert Bruno Pereira and British <I>Guardian</I>
journalist Dom Phillips, whose lives were taken while
working to protect this climate-critical
ecosystem.</P></TD>

Asia defenders working to address pressing issues like
