<P>Last month, Colombian Indigenous leader Pedro Josse Velasco
Tumiña traveled to Ireland to challenge the paper giant decimating
his ancestral lands. <STRONG>Now he’s in grave danger.</STRONG></P>
<P>Over <STRONG>78 human rights defenders</STRONG> have been killed
in Pedro’s region of Colombia in just two years – <STRONG>many
murdered by paramilitary troops allegedly working for land-grabbing
corporations.</STRONG> To speak out is to put your life at risk</P>
<P>Pedro is about to launch a huge advocacy push, to demand action
to protect the Misak people’s rainforest home. <STRONG>But now that
his name and face are known he urgently needs
protection.</STRONG></P>

<P>The threat to the Misak people is very real. Last August a member
of the community, Huber Samir Camayo, was shot dead by police at a
protest over land rights. <STRONG>He was 23 years old.</STRONG></P>
<P>Despite the dangers, there is no choice but to fight –
<STRONG>the community’s home of a thousand years is under sustained
attack</STRONG> from multinational Smurfit Kappa, whose non-native
paper plantations have dried up the local water supply.</P>
