Mega poultry factory farms Bachoco and Crío are
illegally dumping toxic waste in Maya communities in Yucatán. They’re
cutting and burning down the jungle, killing bees, poisoning water sources,
and endangering livelihoods.

The Mexican authority in charge of protecting the
environment - Profepa - can take immediate action to force the megafarms to
clean up their mess, and restore the affected areas!

Tell Profepa to crack down on poultry farm pollution

Mega poultry farms Bachoco and Crío are slashing sections of the
Yucatán jungle to clear space for mountains of toxic waste. The greedy
poultry farms are polluting bee hives and cornfields by using pesticides to
cover up the proliferation of flies and other insects.

Communities have found their water polluted. Everything that
spills over the surface - chicken feces- runs off into the freshwater wells
and cenotes. Cenotes are lifelines and sacred sources of water for the Maya
communities in Mexico.

But if we can get the Mexican environmental authority -
Profepa - to enforce the law, we can stop millions of tonnes of toxic waste
clogging up the drinking water of Yucatán, save vital bee populations,
protect Maya communities, and prevent more of the jungle from being set on
fire.

Tell Profepa to crack down on poultry farm pollution and make
Bachoco and Crío clean up their mess.

The communities of Halachó and Kinchil are part of the Yucatán
Peninsula, one of Mexico's most vital ecosystems. It is home to majestic
jaguars, pumas, and ocelots, as well as a unique and beautiful system of
caves (“Cenotes”) found nowhere else in the world.

But for Bachoco and Crío, it's just another dumping ground. Over
100 tonnes of excrement have been dumped in one location!

Last year, Profepa ordered the closure of both companies'
dumping places. But there is a track record of Bachoco moving their toxic
waste from one closed place to another. As for Crio, they are operating
without permits. The Mexican authority in charge of protecting the
environment - Profepa - has the power to sanction the megafarms, order them
to clean up their mess and rehabilitate the area.

We must act now before it is too late. Together we can call on
the authorities, sign the petition:

Tell the Mexican authority Profepa to crack down on poultry farm
pollution and make Bachoco and Crío clean up their mess.

We know Profepa can do it. Last year, the entity fined 26
industrial pig operations in the Yucatán Peninsula for violating
environmental laws. They can do it again!
