                                Dear subscribers,

The green agenda is becoming more
politically visible, but ecosystems remain under threat. Across the region,
momentum is growing: Ukraine became the first country in Europe to adopt a
national standard for eco-industrial parks; Armenia officially pledged to
reach climate neutrality by 2050; Moldova presented an ambitious green
transition plan; and Azerbaijan is building a “green energy corridor.” At
the same time, environmental risks are mounting — Almaty and Dushanbe are
battling urban smog, Belarus has legalized construction that bypasses master
plans, and new coal-related penalties are being prepared in Russia’s
Krasnoyarsk region. Globally, the signals are alarming: ice is melting
rapidly, water stress is intensifying, and CO₂ emissions continue to
threaten the 1.5 °C goal.

New opportunities for activists are listed
at the end of this issue.

We’re always open to hearing your thoughts,
ideas, or stories — don’t hesitate to get in touch.

                                Sincerely,

Baku Dialogue on Water becomes a global
platform
On June 21, during a session in Bonn, a
representative of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that
the COP29-initiated “Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action” has already
united 72 countries and produced a roadmap for joint action on water and
climate.

Kyrgyzstan highlights mountain agenda at UN
Climate Conference in Bonn
A side event was held in Bishkek as part of
the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, where Kyrgyzstan presented
initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems and strengthen international
cooperation. Discussions focused on establishing coordination mechanisms and
funds to support mountain regions, as well as preparations for the Second
Bishkek Global Mountain Summit in 2027.

What trees should be planted in Dushanbe to
clean the city’s polluted air?
                                Experts recommend planting plane trees,
oaks, and chestnuts along streets and sidewalks to provide critical shade
during hot weather. In June 2024, Tajikistan adopted a National Greening
Program aimed at combating climate change. Over 3 million trees have already
been planted under the plan, with more than 2 billion projected by 2040.

                                Belarus legalizes construction projects that
bypass master plans
A new regulation allows regional and Minsk
city executive committees to issue permits for construction projects that
deviate from approved urban planning documents.

outlined measures to improve air quality in Almaty, focusing on a transition
to cleaner transport, modernization of thermal power plants, greening
efforts, and stricter emissions control. The city has banned the purchase of
new diesel buses and plans to add 600 gas-powered buses and 200 electric
buses by 2025, aiming to raise the share of eco-friendly public transport to
95%.

                                Armenia reaffirms commitment to climate
neutrality by 2050
On June 17, Deputy Minister of Environment
Aram Meimarian reiterated the country’s goal to reach net-zero emissions by
2050. Key measures include a nationwide transition to electric vehicles, the
development of a circular economy, and stricter environmental standards.

Saudi company ACWA Power secures $280
million to build wind power plant in Karakalpakstan
In addition to ACWA Power, the project
involves the Asian Development Bank, Saudi Exim Bank, Asian Infrastructure
Investment Bank, the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank, and Standard
Chartered Bank. The "Nukus-2" project includes the construction of a 200 MW
wind power plant and a 100 MW battery energy storage system.

the Government of Kyrgyzstan, opposing the cancellation of the trolleybus
system in Bishkek. They reminded the authorities that Kyrgyzstan is a party
to the Paris Agreement and is obliged to reduce emissions while safeguarding
the human right to a healthy environment and a decent life.

                                Moldova unveils green transition plan
The country aims to cut emissions by 70% by
2030, attract €30 billion in investment, and strengthen resilience to
climate disasters, which already cost Moldova 1.3% of its GDP annually. Key
focus areas include agricultural reform, clean energy, circular economy, and
municipal support.

Russia: businesses in Krasnoyarsk Krai to
face fines for coal heating
Starting autumn 2025, businesses using coal

impact assessment request for seven Goldwind GW182 turbines (7.5 MW each)
near the village of Nakshirgele. The project will provide 50 MW of wind
capacity and expand Georgia’s renewable energy portfolio.

                                Ukraine adopts national standard for

                                World Climate and Energy News

                                Climate misinformation turning crisis into
catastrophe, report says
False claims obstructing climate action, say
researchers, amid calls for climate lies to be criminalised. It found
climate action was being obstructed and delayed by false and misleading
information stemming from fossil fuel companies, rightwing politicians and
some nation states. The researchers found climate denialism has evolved into
campaigns focused on discrediting solutions, such as the false claims that
renewable energy caused the recent massive blackout in Spain.

Three years left to limit warming to 1.5C,
leading scientists warn
The Earth could be doomed to breach the
symbolic 1.5C warming limit in as little as three years at current levels of
carbon dioxide emissions. That's the stark warning from more than 60 of the
world's leading climate scientists in the most up-to-date assessment of the
state of global warming.Nearly 200 countries agreed to try to limit global
temperature rises to 1.5C above levels of the late 1800s in a landmark
agreement in 2015, with the aim of avoiding some of the worst impacts of
climate change. But countries have continued to burn record amounts of coal,
oil and gas and chop down carbon-rich forests - leaving that international
goal in peril.

Emperor penguins show dramatic decline in
one region of Antarctica, satellite photos show
The estimated population of 16 penguin
colonies declined 22% mainly because of climate change that’s shrinking the
amount of available sea ice. The estimated population of 16 penguin
colonies — visible in satellite photos taken between 2009 and 2024 — had
declined 22% during that period mainly because of climate change that’s
shrinking the amount of available sea ice. It’s unclear whether this drop is
seen across the continent, scientists said.

Central Asia
The Call for Regional Initiatives grant

the EU, focuses on implementing climate adaptation projects in the Fergana
Valley. The call is open to NGOs from Kyrgyzstan (Osh and Jalal-Abad
regions), Tajikistan (Sughd region), and Uzbekistan (Andijan, Namangan, and
