                        LEARNING & ACTION CALL

                        The Rights of Nature Movement

Friday, June 27, 8:00 am PDT / 3:00 pm GMT

Prize winners and colleagues are invited to learn
more about the rights of nature movement and how it might be applicable to
your region or country. There will be time for discussion and questions as
well.

                        Speaker
Natalia Greene, Global Director of Global Alliance
for the Rights of Nature

                        Please RSVP

The rights of nature movement is gaining momentum
worldwide, challenging traditional legal frameworks that separate humans
from the natural world. Two recent Goldman Prize winners have been
recognized for their rights of nature victories: Mari Luz Canaquiri (Peru,
2025) and Teresa Vicente (Spain, 2024). Over 40 countries now incorporate
rights of nature through constitutional provisions, local ordinances,
ecosystem protection efforts, or emerging legal initiatives.

Internationally, rights of nature are increasingly
being referenced in treaties, legal instruments, and declarations,
reflecting a broader shift toward systemic recognition of ecosystems as
rights-bearing entities. In her presentation, Natalia Greene from Global
Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN) will explore landmark legal cases
from Ecuador where courts have upheld and enforced the rights of nature. The
presentation will also highlight international examples of rights of nature
in practice.
