📙 A Good Read: "Indigenous Forests Absorb Noxious Fumes and Absorb Diseases From Fires."
The extreme wildfires in the Amazon threaten to overwhelm the forest's role as a critical carbon sink. However, a recent study published in Nature has demonstrated the potential of Indigenous stewardship as an antidote to the noxious fumes produced by fires and extractive industry. Read more from Mongabay to learn about the critical importance of Indigenous knowledge and leadership to combating climate change in the Amazon.
📢 A Hopeful Campaign: #DemarcaYvirupa
The Comissão Guarani Yvyrupa (CGY) and twelve Indigenous Guarini communities in the Brazilian Mata Atlântica coastal forest have launched a campaign to ask President Lula for title to their ancestral lands. Their fight is emblematic of efforts by Indigenous communities around the world fighting for their #landrights as defenders of the life and territory. Watch their brilliant campaign video here, and practice your Portuguese!

🎞️ A Powerful Film: "The Territory"
Indigenous communities are global leaders in the defense of the territory. The Oscar-nominated documentary "The Territory", produced by National Geographic, showcases the efforts of the Uru-eu-wau-wau people to secure their land rights and protect the Amazon rainforest against extractive industries. You can watch the trailer here to understand the inextricable relationship between defending the planet and defending the original people of the forest.
