Emperor penguins are on the climate chopping block.
It's Official:
Emperor Penguins Are Endangered. We Need Swift Action to Save Them!

The US Fish and Wildlife Service has added emperor penguins to the endangered species list, given how dire the situation is for the species -- the sea ice that they depend on for nesting, hunting, and habitat is disappearing due to climate change. Some penguin colonies have declined by nearly 50% since the 1970s. Other colonies have suffered even worse fates. In 2016, 10,000 chicks died in Halley Bay because the sea ice broke up too early in the season -- the chicks tragically drowned as they were not old enough to swim.
These tragic fates cannot be allowed to continue. Luckily, there's an event happening right now that could change the course of history for emperor penguins -- the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27. Every year, this Conference of Parties takes place in a different city, all with the same goal: to address climate catastrophe. But COP meetings have famously failed to create binding international agreements, which are desperately needed to curb the most devastating impacts of climate change and save animals like the emperor penguin. World leaders gathering for COP27 in Egypt must prioritize saving the emperor penguin before it is too late -- sign the petition now if you agree!
Thank you,
Lauren
