                 Russian Federation excluded from the Council of Europe
                        At an extraordinary meeting on 16 March, the 
Committee of Ministers decided, as part of the procedure initiated under 
Article 8 of the Council of Europe Statute, that the Russian Federation 
would cease to be a member of the Council of Europe as of today, 26 years 
after its accession.

                 Ukraine: Council approves rapid release of cohesion 
resources to help refugees
                        The Council approved on 16 March a legislative 
proposal that will mobilise cohesion policy funds to assist refugees fleeing 
Russia's military aggression. The measure will also reinforce member states' 
ongoing efforts to address the widespread impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
