The Humane Society of the United StatesThe latest updates from the Humane
Society of the United States.

Dogs with no apparent food and water rescued in New
Mexico

The Humane Society of the United States assisted the
4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in rescuing dozens of dogs and 19
puppies from an alleged cruelty situation in San Miguel County, New Mexico.
The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance on-scene.

"These dogs have been living in a pretty dire
situation—they’re desperate for resources and adequate living conditions to
meet even their most basic needs. It feels good to get them out of here,"
said Jessica Johnson, Senior Director of Animal Crimes for the Humane
Society of the United States. "We are grateful to the 4th Judicial District
Attorney’s Office, San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office and RedRover for
helping get these dogs the care they need."

Here’s how we’re taking action for Ukraine
and its animals via HSI

With the weight of Russia’s invasion of
Ukraine heavy in our hearts, we are thinking of the Ukrainian people and
their animals and identifying ways to help them now and over the longer
term.

An inside look at what it takes to go
undercover for the animals

Imagine having to work in a roadside zoo, a
pet store selling puppy mill puppies, a slaughter plant or a factory farm
without ever being able to show your true feelings.

                                Animal-friendly appropriations in Congress
bring good news for all kinds of animals

                                President Biden has signed the
appropriations package into law almost immediately after the House and
Senate vote.

Caring for animals means caring for yourself

If you're suffering from compassion fatigue,
you can't do your best work for people and animals. You might feel sadness,
anger, apathy or loss of compassion for others, or use food, alcohol or
drugs to manage your emotions.
