Because of supporters like you, those affected by the war in Ukraine are continuing to receive help—thank you.
Last Friday marked the hundredth day since Russia invaded Ukraine. As we know, people often jeopardize their own safety to protect their animals. Our hearts broke for those affected by the war, but I was extremely humbled to see how animal lovers all over the world quickly came together to help those in need.
Because of supporters like you, Mars, Petco, BabyDoge and significant support from many individual donors, HSI is continuing to provide relief for the people and animals fleeing the war and those who stayed behind.
Watch this video to see how we've made a difference together in Ukraine.
Thank you so much for being there for animals when they need you the most.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Flocken
President of Humane Society International
More than 10k relief packets delivered
HSI staff assembled more than 10,000 relief packets for refugees and their pets. We’ve also been working with travel companies to provide safe, pet-friendly passage for Ukrainian refugees traveling with their animals, to avoid cats, dogs and other pets being abandoned at bus terminals, airports or near border crossings.
Nina and Maya find new foster homes
Two sisters, Nina and Maya, were living in an abandoned breeding facility just outside of Kyiv. With the help of our generous donors and local volunteers, they were transported to a shelter we’re collaborating with in Poland and quickly found foster homes. The search for their loving, new family begins now.
23 tons of pet supplies delivered
Because of you, HSI was able to provide 23 tons of emergency pet food and supplies for the dogs and cats caught up in the war in Ukraine. The truck traveled from Trieste, Italy to Lviv, Ukraine and included pet food, carriers, collars, leashes, kennels and a wide range of veterinary supplies such as parasite treatment and disinfectant.
Rescuing and caring for Ruslan
Our partner group found a cat named Ruslan near the Polish border. Ruslan was frightened, weak and stressed upon arrival at our partner facility—likely lost at the border crossing. Ruslan is now getting all the attention, food, water and compassion he could ever need until he finds a new loving home.
