*[Enwl-eng] A hurricane stronger than Katrina just ripped through the American South

            Hurricane Ida was a category above Katrina in severity. Evacuees and victims need help, desperately and immediately!

                  On the last weekend of August 2021, Hurricane Ida made landfall in the state of Louisiana with 150 mph winds, torrential rains, and devastating flooding. Hurricane Ida was a category 4 hurricane — to put that in perspective, infamous Katrina was a category 3. The images and videos coming out of the area are heartbreakingly bleak — entire neighborhoods flooded. Receding waters show partially or entirely demolished homes. The death toll being reported is sure to rise as utility outages continue and aid remains scarce. 

                  As of Tuesday, August 31, over one million people were without electricity while summer temperatures remain dangerously high. With scorching heat and limited emergency services, disabled people will have trouble keeping medical devices working and medicines stored safely. Disabled and non-disabled people alike will be in danger of heat stroke and may not have enough food or clean water. Clean water, working sewage systems, and other basic utilities were said not to be guaranteed in these areas. Meanwhile, those who were thankfully able to evacuate the area before the hurricane are now stranded, told not to return because it's not yet safe. But unless they have unlimited funds and family or friends elsewhere who can take them in, staying away is just as difficult a proposition. 

                  Victims and evacuees desperately need help, and fast. Sign the petition to demand the U.S. government allot more resources towards helping these evacuees and people suffering in the aftermath of this natural disaster!
