Dear friends, Today, Avaaz placed a hard-hitting ad in the Financial Times targeting Fatih Birol, the head of the world’s leading energy agency, the IEA, calling on him to be the climate champion the world needs.Despite his green rhetoric, under Birol’s watch, the agency’s powerful flagship report is fueling climate-wrecking businesses -- justifying further oil drilling, coal mining and delaying the transition to renewable energies we urgently need.Mr Birol is co-hosting a global summit on climate today. So let's put him in the spotlight and urge him to lead the way to clean energy! The meeting is about to start -- retweet Avaaz's full-page ad, and then write your own personal message:RetweetAvaaz's Tweet
Dear friends,
Today, Avaaz placed a hard-hitting ad in the Financial Times targeting Fatih Birol, the head of the world’s leading energy agency, the IEA, calling on him to be the climate champion the world needs.
Despite his green rhetoric, under Birol’s watch, the agency’s powerful flagship report is fueling climate-wrecking businesses -- justifying further oil drilling, coal mining and delaying the transition to renewable energies we urgently need.
Mr Birol is co-hosting a global summit on climate today. So let's put him in the spotlight and urge him to lead the way to clean energy! The meeting is about to start -- retweet Avaaz's full-page ad, and then write your own personal message:

Tips for your own Twitter message:
a.. Call for real climate ambition: According to the latest climate science, we have less than 10 years to avert climate chaos and keep temperature rise below 1.5˚C. Beyond that: drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty will be the future for hundreds of millions of people.
b.. Highlight the shortcomings: the IEA says it wants to shape a safe energy future for all, but for years, its main report has consistently underestimated the growth of renewables and overestimated the need for fossil fuels.
c.. Point out how they are putting the Paris Agreement at risk: All IEA member states have signed the Paris agreement. But instead of putting central focus on the roadmap for the clean energy transition we need, the IEA is slowing us down.
d.. Use your own words, and don't forget to use Birol's and the agency’s Twitter handles: @fbirol and @IEA. Don’t forget hashtags #NetZeroSummit #WEO2021 and #WEO21
