*[Enwl-eng] Dozens of rescued monkeys have died from the Texas cold

            Texas cold has killed monkeys, lemurs, and a chimpanzee while sanctuaries beg public for help to save any surviving animals

                 The historic and terrifying cold weather in Texas has caused countless casualties this February — not only for humans, but for animals, too. One particularly vulnerable group of animals are those rescued creatures living in sanctuaries where their normal habitats are outside. As snow, ice, and sub-freezing temperatures descended on the Primarily Primates sanctuary, staff desperately rushed to try and save the facility's chimpanzees, lemurs, baboons, macaques, monkeys, and more. Approximately 32 animals are now being kept in bedrooms heated with generators, but the organization is fast running out of supplies. 

                  Primarily Primates and other sanctuaries are now terrified that the powerless animals they care for could all die from the cold. In fact, the organization has already lost upwards of 12 animals as a result of power losses and medical emergencies. With roads closed off, staff are sleeping in their cars to stay warm and keep nearby in case the animals need them. But they're also begging the public for help, pleading for extra generators, propane tanks, and food and water for both animals and staff alike. If they don't get this help, dozens more animals could die. Texas lawmakers have an obligation to their people and also to the animals living there. Demand they provide immediate life-saving aid to animal sanctuaries now!
