Officials voice concerns over vaccine
inequity, delays
There are currently many bottlenecks
delaying COVID-19 vaccine rollouts, says UNICEF COVAX coordinator Benjamin
Schreiber, as World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom
Ghebreyesus raises concerns that inequitable and slow vaccine distribution
will give the virus time to mutate into vaccine-resistant forms, hampering
the global push to end the pandemic. Many poor countries yet to receive
doses of the vaccine have begun seeking supplies on their own, which experts
warn could undermine the COVAX program.Full Story: Voice of America (2/5),

UN reboots Yemen peace process as US lifts
terror label
Martin Griffiths, the United Nations special
envoy for Yemen, is in Iran to meet with officials on renewing efforts to
implement a nationwide cease-fire in Yemen, deploy humanitarian aid and
restart efforts to develop political processes in the country. The trip
comes as US officials announced the country would revoke its terrorist
designation of Yemen's Houthi militia and end support for Saudi Arabia's
military push in the country.Full Story: Reuters (2/5), The Associated

Somalia must ban FGM, UNFPA says on
international day
Nearly all Somali women between 15 and 49
have been subjected to female genital mutilation, an unacceptable practice
that causes physical harm and deprives women and girls of their rights, and
lawmakers in the country must take action to ban it, United Nations
Population Fund representative Anders Thomsen said as the world marked
International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation on
Saturday. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres echoed the call, urging
authorities around the world to work toward ending FGM.Full Story: Anadolu
