ordered the release of its bogus glyphosate studies to the public.

cancer-linked glyphosate for another five years back in 2017. And Monsanto 
fought tooth and nail to keep things that way.

            But this stops now.

European parliament members had seen these studies.

            The European Food Safety Authority just refused to give anyone 
access -- saying that it "could harm the commercial interests of companies 
that presented the studies."

anyone -- least of all credible scientists -- to take a closer look, because 
it would mean the end of its toxic, cancer-linked weedkiller in Europe, and 
then around the world.

            But the court ruling changed all this. And it left 
Bayer-Monsanto shaking in its boots. That?s why it had lobbyists fighting 
tooth and nail to stop the research ever seeing the light of day. And that?s 
why, in the first renewal decision since the ruling, we need to take 
advantage of this new reality.

            This is our chance to ban glyphosate for good. But we can only 
do it if we have enough funds for top scientists to go through the research, 
page by page. This could be the breakthrough we need to get Monsanto?s toxic

Hi,

My name is Virginia and I'm writing to you from Spain. You may have seen my 
name in your inbox. I am totally passionate about what people power can 
achieve to make Europe a better place.

Today I want to tell you a great story of change from Spain that is already 
happening and to make you part of it. A story about protecting whales, 
dolphins, sharks, turtles and coral reefs, all living in a marine sanctuary 
that is about to get destroyed.

On Monday, I found that social media had exploded with thousands of people 
across Spain saying 'no' to a megaport in the Canary Islands. A megaport 
that threatens this marine sanctuary and all that live there. In just a few 
days, those thousands of supporters grew to be a quarter of a million!


The people running this campaign knew they had to act when they found out 
that this terrible project could go ahead AND be funded by EU funds that are 
meant to 'green our economy'. [1] There is nothing green about a megaport 
that attracts more emissions from ships whilst destroying endangered 
animals!

In reality, way too many of these destructive mega projects are happening 
across Europe. But we are not going to wait until it happens on our own 
doorstep to take action. This story is ultimately a European one. So too was 
the Kresna Gorge highway in Bulgaria we fought, or the Rio Tinto mine in 
Serbia we are currently fighting. [2]

Europe is not just about EU politics. It's about what is going on in all of 
our hometowns, villages and countries. It?s about how we join forces to 
influence what is happening. That is what we are called to do now.

When a bunch of people chose YouMove Europe as the place to host their 
petition to protect wildlife, they knew this wasn?t another ?local issue?. 
[3] After all, the baby whale 'Hope,' whose tail was cut by a boat in the 
sanctuary, and the reefs and turtles that suffered its same fate aren?t 
'Canarian'. The activists had a vision. They knew this is an international 
issue ? people are now responding back to their initiative: 'yes, it is, yes 
we care'.

This campaign needs to be fought on different levels. Right now, I'm 
preparing to meet those who started this petition on the ground, and figure 
out how we win a campaign to stop European money from being spent on this

                 It is still common practice in the UK ? and around the 
world ? to boil lobsters alive in order to make our meals. Home cooks and 
chefs alike shove living animals into scalding pots of murderous water, 
subjecting them to one of the most painful deaths imaginable. For 
generations, the food industry has been trying to convince the public that 
lobsters "don't really feel pain" so that we'd look the other way. But 
that's nonsense. Anyone can see that lobsters ? when trapped in vats of 
boiling, bubbling water ? desperately try to escape, panicked to save their 
own lives and stop the torment.

                  Being marine creatures without lungs or vocal cords, 
lobsters can't communicate with humans. They can't make sweet mammal-type 
eye gestures at us that we've learned to swoon at. So when it comes to 
torturing these animals just so we can satisfy our palates, humans have 
often been all for it. Luckily, countries around the world are starting to 
ban this culinary practice. Right now, the UK government is considering 
legislation that would ban the live-boiling of lobsters, and it's imperative 
lawmakers pass this bill. Sign the petition to demand that British lawmakers 
pass the Animal Welfare (Sentient) Bill and give crustaceans and molluscs 
like lobsters actual rights!

     CENN, within the frames of a new initiative - Promotional Campaign for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Technologies in Rural Areas started community mobilisation meetings in the regions. 

       

      Within the framework of the initiative, meetings were held on July 28-29, 2021 in Keda and Khulo municipalities. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide information to the local population on energy efficiency and renewable technologies. The participants of the meetings got acquainted with the following technologies:

       

      ?             Industrial Solarwater heater;

      ?             Simple Solar Water Heater;

      ?             Simple Solar Air Heater;

      ?             Thermal insulation.

       

      The experts introduced the participants in detail to both the economic and environmental benefits of these technologies. The meeting was held in an interactive format and was attended by stakeholders, representatives of the local population, the City Hall, and the business sector.

       

      The project aims to introduce large-scale, rural energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, which will mainly benefit the introduction of innovative technologies in 8 target municipalities and the regions of Georgia in general.

      People interested in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies from the 8 target municipalities of the campaign will have the opportunity to participate in the activities planned within the campaign.

       

      The project is being implemented with the assistance of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) within the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD).

                                Sustainable Food Can Drive Sustainable Development 
                                 
                                  
                                 
                                Food systems account for roughly 20-40 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions and 80 per cent of biodiversity loss. The industry is also a major economic generator - worth around US$8 trillion, or 10 per cent of GDP, with a large portion of young people in developing countries relying on it for income and livelihoods. 


                                Addressing food systems systemically can therefore deliver outsized impact on decarbonisation and resilience - as well as the interlinked challenges of biofood diversity loss, desertification and broader sustainable development. 


                                The good news? We know what can deliver this. For example, using nature-based solutions, we could reduce or remove up to 98 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent from the atmosphere by 2030 (that?s around three times the global CO2 emissions from energy in 2019) as well as regenerate systems of nature which underpin the global food system and livelihoods.   


                                The UN?s first Food Systems Summit in September presents an opportunity to spur the sector?s transformation in line with net zero emissions in the 2040s, healthier diets, an end to biodiversity loss, and building climate resilience. With a focus on solutions, the summit will bring together nutritionists, farmers, indigenous peoples, governments, the private sector, youth and others to set new commitments and initiatives that can accelerate all 17 of the UN?s Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.  


                                The work started at a pre-summit in Rome last week. The event was dubbed the People?s Summit because of its unprecedented level of engagement, with dialogues in 145 countries involving tens of thousands of people, alongside national-level dialogues and consultations. It also saw the formation of clusters to promote the best game-changing solutions to the systemic problems facing food systems.                                 For countries, the task ahead of September?s summit is to commit to ending hunger for the 811 million people who are simultaneously most at risk from Covid-19, the climate crisis and hunger, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame said.  


                                Incorporating plans to improve diets and minimise food loss and waste into national climate plans could boost a country?s emissions reductions and adaptation to climate change by up to a quarter, according to a report by WWF, the UN Environment Programme, EAT and Climate Focus in September 2020. The combined opportunity from addressing these issues equated to taking 2.7 billion cars off the road.  
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                The Race to Transform Food 
                                 
                                  
                                 
                                The High-Level Climate Champions team is working with businesses, investors and local governments to make half the world?s food systems regenerative by 2030, through both the UN-backed Race to Zero and Race to Resilience. How? By following the climate action pathways set out by the Marrakech Partnership: 


                                a.. Get public and private finance behind the transformation. This can be driven by coalitions like the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero, and requires a repurposing of food and agriculture subsidies and better links between government institutions dealing with agriculture, environment, health and finance. 

                                a.. Bring farmers and producers into the debate on the policies needed. Three-quarters of all food is produced by small farmers, who are underrepresented in international discussions yet also most at risk from climate change. The Climakers, a Race to Resilience partner that includes farmer organisations from the Carribean, Africa and Europe, is giving farmers a platform in political processes on climate change and agriculture. The UK National Farmers Union is setting a clear pathway to net-negative agriculture as early as 2030, while Agriculture for 1.5 is offering farmers a tech platform to set and deliver decarbonization pathways.   


                                a.. Innovative practices and technologies such as alternative protein technologies and fintech that rewards farmers and producers for shifting to regenerative agriculture can have outsized impact. For example, Race to Resilience partner Scale for Resilience this week detailed how it will scale financial access for 3 million farmers to nature-based solutions. 


                                a.. More than 20 per cent of the food supply industry is already committed to net zero emissions. Businesses need to set science-based targets to drive up regenerative agriculture and deforestation-free supply chains, and can do so by joining the new Science Based Targets for Nature. 
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                 
                                Converging Action into Exponential Change 
                                 
                                  
                                 
                                Nearly three-quarters of global emissions are now covered by goals for reaching net zero. Now it?s time to translate those commitments into credible government policies and private sector plans for getting there.


                                The science is clear: for our best chance of limiting global warming to 1.5?C, we need to halve greenhouse gas emissions between 2020 and 2030, while radically regenerating nature. And that requires us - as a global economy - to hit breakthroughs in the largest and heaviest emitting sectors within the coming years.


                                The High-Level Climate Champions team?s newly updated report, 2030 Breakthroughs: Upgrading Our Systems Together, can catalyze this immediate action by pinpointing the needed tipping points across more than 30 sectors. These are underpinned by the Climate Action Pathways reports, or roadmaps, for sectors.   


                                The immediate challenge is for 20 per cent of key actors in each sector to commit by 2023 to following their sector?s Climate Action Pathway, by joining the UN Race to Zero campaign or similar targets. They should then deliver on their first sector-specific target within the decade. This includes goals for renewables to provide at least 60 per cent of global power generation by 2030, for zero-emissions vehicles to make up 15 per cent of all car and van sales by 2025, and for 50 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent to be mitigated by land use, food and agriculture by 2030. 


                                In the finance sector, for example, price signals and profit motives will need to be corrected so that the true cost of climate change impacts is reflected in balance sheets, according to the newly released climate action pathway for finance. Within the 2020s, policymakers, civil society, local governments, corporates and financial institutions will need to drive sectoral breakthroughs including a correction of market failures and closing of the valuation gap, a shift in long-term investment mindset that embeds the 2050 long-term target and steps needed to get there, and the embedding of climate-aware sustainable approaches to risk management and incentives.  


                                This is about driving systems change, and systems change is about converging action towards exponential - rather than linear - change.

The assessment was carried out by the World Benchmarking Alliance, CDP and ADEME.  


                                a.. The Race to Resilience hosted it?s Africa Cities and Built Environment Day with the launch of Africa Cities Race to Resilience, the Africa Urban Water Resilience report and a new report on financing a green transition for South Africa.

The newly launched multi-stakeholder platform, Voluntary Carbon Market Integrity Initiative, is designed to drive credible, net-zero aligned participation in voluntary carbon markets. The consultation report makes clear how voluntary carbon markets can make a meaningful and significant contribution to meeting the Paris Agreement?s goals.

            And he's fast-tracking legislation to make his dream come 
true -- opening the rainforest to out-of-control mining and expelling 
Indigenous peoples from their ancestral lands to make it happen.

            These hideous bills could be voted on any day now -- we need an 
urgent, all-out push to stop him. That means polling to put pressure on key 
politicians, generating national and international media coverage, and 
backing the Indigenous organizations on the front lines to stop this 
dangerous legislation in its tracks.

            Sumatran rhinos are extinct everywhere in the world ? except for 
80 left in Indonesia. The country must act fast to save this species.

                 The Sumatran rhino is hanging on by a thread. In 2019, when 
Malaysia's last two captive Sumatran rhinos died, Indonesia became the only 
place left in the entire world that these rhinos can call home. Now, fewer 
than 80 of these incredible beasts remain alive, and if we don't act fast, 
those last individuals will go the way of Malaysia's rhinos ? disappearing 
forever. That's why we're calling on the Indonesian government to do 
everything it can to save them.

                  Rhinos have an extremely low birth rate. This already made 
their survival difficult, but in the face of human construction, climate 
change, habitat loss, and poaching, it's become almost impossible. But with 
help from experts, we can save them. When conservationists intervened to 
save the Javan rhino, another endangered species, their population 
successfully rebounded. If we do the right thing, we could be celebrating 
the same milestone for the Sumatran rhino in a few years ? but we don't have 
a minute to lose. Sign the petition to tell the Indonesian government to 
prioritize both saving the Sumatran rhino from extinction and re-introducing 
them to the wild throughout their historic habitat.

                        In our latest longread, Brian Barth and Fl?via 
Milhorance report from a groundbreaking Brazilian community demonstrating 
how to farm sustainably in the Amazon rainforest.

                        Open a new road in the Amazon and deforestation most 
often follows, creating a landscape of big sky, white cows, and green 
pastures. But on back roads around the frontier town of Nova Calif?rnia, in 
a remote corner of northwestern Brazil, a renewed verdant canopy closes in.

                        These forests exist because a local agroforestry 
cooperative called RECA has made it economically viable to plant and tend 
them, an especially important endeavour at a time when the rainforest is 
being razed at an alarming rate. For decades, cattle ranching has been the 
dominant economic activity in the Amazon, driving 80% of forest loss.

                        Ranchers get caught in a vicious cycle, felling 
forest and establishing pastures that quickly deplete the nutrients in the 
thin tropical soils. Once depleted, yields of beef per acre diminish, so the 
ranchers move on, converting more forest to pastures until those soils are 
shot, too. So far, nearly a fifth of the Amazon has been cleared. But 
because agroforestry systems require far less land than cattle to make a 
living, they could take the pressure off the rainforest that remains?if they 
were more widely implemented.

                        RECA, a co-op founded in 1989, demonstrates how it 
could be done. The natural rainforest preserves biodiversity, protects soil 
and water, and sequesters carbon in its trees, mitigating climate change. 
RECA?s farmers approximate that ecosystem, densely planting up to 40 species 
in their recreated rainforest parcels.

                        The co-op processes about a dozen of these species 
into food products sold throughout Brazil: fruit juice, palm hearts, oils. 
The rest, including medicinal plants, supply local markets. Others are 
planted simply to benefit soil and wildlife. Some of the harvest is even 
exported. RECA?s top crop is cupua?u, a relative of the cacao tree. Its 
seeds are pressed into an oil purchased by the Brazilian cosmetics 
conglomerate Natura, which owns Avon and The Body Shop. L?Occitane, the 
French cosmetics company with stores across the United States, buys the 
seeds of the cumaru tree, which lend a vanilla-almond fragrance to the 
company?s Cumaru Raiz cologne.

                        The more than 300 families in the co-op earn about 
five times more per acre from their agroforestry plots annually than local 
ranchers do from their pastures.

great relief for me and my family.? ? Alexander Schiebel, author and 
activist trying to stop the use of pesticides
Hi,

This summer, Alexander Schiebel finally celebrated. He was stressed for 
months because he faced criminal charges merely for criticising his local 
government?s massive use of pesticides in its apples.

Back in September, we joined forces to help Alexander and Karl B?r, 
activists fighting against the use of pesticides. The government of South 
Tyrol and the apple industry sued both of them in an attempt to intimidate 
and silence them. [1]

Now, Alexander has been fully acquitted and almost all of the complaints 
against Karl have been dropped. [2] This victory would have never happened 
without the protest and our outcry against this outrageous attack on freedom 
of speech. [3]

The quiet mountain and prosperous region of South Tyrol were not used to 
seeing our European people power in action and being targeted: they rely 
heavily on tourism and absolutely hate bad publicity. So we organised a 
protest and delivered over 250,000 signatures, including yours, Vladimir, in 
support of Karl and Alexander, attracting a lot of attention and bringing 
bad press to South Tyrol. [4]

The acquittal and dropped lawsuits are not only a win for Alexander and 
Karl, but for all activists speaking out against pesticides.

By dropping the vast majority of its lawsuits, the apple industry and the 
local government are admitting that they made a mistake in dragging their 
critics to court and instead should accept an open debate about their 
practices.

But, unfortunately, it?s not all good news. Of the apple industry companies, 
more than 1,300 have dropped their lawsuit against Karl, but two are still 
left standing. And while the local government did drop charges, they may 
still continue their trademark infringement action against Karl. [5] So the 
fight is not over yet. Karl could still face a conviction and be forced to 
pay large fees. The court proceedings will continue on October 21, 2021.

                                Fix the land or it will be an emitter, new IPCC Report warns

                                Bonn, 11/08/2021 - The Earth is warming fast, and even faster on the land. This trend is ?virtually certain? to continue and no region of the world will be spared, according to the Working Group 1 assessment report released Monday by the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

                                Globally, the last decade was on average already one degree Celsius warmer than it was between 1850 and 1900. But it was way warmer over the land, and close to the 2 degrees in some regions.

                                The Report provides evidence of the warming and its effects on the land from the one degree of warming that occurred in the last decade.

                                More moisture is evaporating, and faster. The atmosphere is holding more water. Rainfall is heavier and more frequent. Droughts are intensifying. Extremely hot days are more intense, frequent, and last longer, whereas extremely cold days are less frequent and less severe. Climate zones are shifting towards the poles.

                                The Report, which is part of the IPCC?s Sixth Assessment Report of climate change, provides the physical science basis of climate change.

                                In addition to providing the changes observed between 2011 and 2020 of 1 degree Celsius, it also uses simulation to project what the future would look like if temperatures rose by 1.0, 1.5, 2 and 4 degrees Celsius relative to the 1850-1900 period.

                                ?Scientists are clear that we face dire consequences, if we fail to act now. Temperatures will rise above 2 degrees Celsius by 2050 and to between 3 and 4 degrees by 2100. They are also clear under what conditions, we can still reduce emissions drastically to keep the average global temperature below 2 degrees by 2050 and reduce it to below 1.5 before the turn of the century,? says Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

                                ?It?s critical to cut the sources of emissions, such as fossil fuels right now. But it is vital to ensure that the Earth?s natural carbon sinks can draw down the carbon in the atmosphere now and into the future. Oceans and land are not sufficient to draw down all the emissions. But they are necessary and critically important for meeting the global goals envisioned. The stakes couldn?t be higher,? Thiaw says.

                                The IPCC Report states that oceans and land absorb half of our carbon emissions each year. But their effectiveness at slowing the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is declining with ever-increasing emissions. Unless our course is changed now, over time these natural carbon sinks will turn from net sinks into net sources of carbon emissions.

                                ?Land can be part of the solution. Better land planning, use and management going forward and the restoration of the one billion hectares of land governments have committed to restore by 2030 would make a big difference in our resilience to climate change. We know the benefits of restoration at large scale,? says Thiaw.

                                Under the Paris Agreement of 2015, governments agreed to take actions to ensure by year 2100 the Earth?s warming stays within 2 degrees Celsius, while pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5?C above pre-industrial levels. These actions are known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Agreement signed into law under the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

                                UNFCCC reported in a press release Monday that ?an initial synthesis of submitted new or updated NDCs early in 2021 showed that collective efforts fall far short of what is required by science to limit global temperature increases by the end of the century to 2C, let alone the desired objective of less than 1.5C.

                                Over one billion hectares of degraded land globally is earmarked for restoration by 2030. Of this, more than 250 million hectares are commitments under the NDCs. An additional 450 million hectares  committed under the Convention to Combat Desertification and about 90 million hectares under the Convention on Biological Diversity can contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

                                The IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land published two years ago explains the various roles the land plays in driving climate change and its potential to both reverse the process and build the resilience of both people and ecosystems.

                                The Report?s new complementary Interactive Atlas can be used to assess how the future could change at different times for different regions. The tool is accessible to the public and begins with a tour guide on how to use and navigate.

                                The IPCC?s Report from Working Group II, focusing on the impacts and how to adapt to the change, will be issued in February 2022. Working Group III Report, on how to halt and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, will be released in March 2022. The synthesis report of the Sixth Assessment Report will be issued in September 2022. These reports will advance further our understanding of the role land can play in addressing climate change.

Hi,

This week, the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report was released, and it confirms what we already know: the Earth?s climate is getting worse more rapidly than predicted, and the window to limit global warming to 1.5?C above pre-industrial levels is quickly closing.

I know this is difficult news. I also know that the fossil fuel industry will use this as an opportunity to argue that it's too late to do anything about it. Why? Because they want us to lose hope and give up, so they can continue polluting our planet for profit. Because they want us to think that our fight for a livable planet is unwinnable. Because to them, we pose a real threat.

The truth is, we know a thing or two about "unwinnable" fights ? we've taken on such fights before and won.

So let's not give Big Oil what they want. If we stay focused, work hard, and stick together, we WILL shut down their entire industry, and stop them from continuing to ruin our futures. That's why I'm asking:

Will you chip in today? We will use your contribution to fight the fossil fuel industry, which is directly responsible for this bad news, and work towards deploying solutions that will prevent even worse news in the future.

Here's something Big Oil doesn't want you to know, Vladimir: there is a lot of good news too.

The first piece of good news is that we already have the technical capacity to limit global warming to 1.5?C above pre-industrial levels. This is CRUCIAL, and really important to remember while we're doing this work.

The next step, of course, is to turn this technical possibility into reality, by making 1.5?C a political imperative, by ending all fossil fuel projects, and by deploying the solutions we have at hand to prevent further harm to our communities and our climate.

That brings me to another piece of good news. Our climate movement is incredibly powerful, and it's growing stronger every day. There is no doubt in my mind that if we continue to grow, organise, mobilise and activate our movement around the world to demand immediate climate action, we will take down the fossil fuel industry.

I'm not trying to say that this fight won't be difficult, because it will be. And I'm not trying to say that this crisis isn't urgent, because it is. It will take all of us doing everything we can to prevent the worst effects of the climate crisis. But what I am trying to say is this:

I refuse to give in to despair or inaction. I refuse to let corporate greed ruin our home. And I pledge to fight for climate justice. Are you with me?

Chip in today to help us in this fight of our lifetime, to maintain a livable climate.

Thank you for everything you do. And remember: the world isn't ending, but the era of fossil fuels is.

Hi,

This is a story of the WeMove Europe community at its best.

We had a big fight ahead of us. We were up against an industry that gets the biggest chunk of the European budget. So the decks were stacked against us - landowners and agricultural giants and their powerful lobbies fighting for millions, for business as usual, in the midst of a worsening climate crisis.

We were punching way above our weight, and we love doing that.

We joined forces with activists from Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion. We worked with some of the great NGOs in Brussels, including BirdLife Europe.

We campaigned together for months to stop the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), a deal on agriculture that favors agribusiness and is terrible for the environment and our climate. Nearly 160.000 of us supported the campaign from across Europe. Thousands of us donated and sent tweets or emails to the European Commission. We created a video that was watched over 30,000 times.

And we organised a protest in Brussels to put pressure on the European decision makers.

Yet, it wasn?t enough to stop this deal. [1] 

There is no way to sugarcoat it. The EU signed a deal on agriculture that is a big failure; for people, for the planet, for climate, and for small farmers. In fact, the deal funds the destruction of nature and pumps money into factory farms. It's a disaster. Here?s why;

  a.. Money will continue to flow to intensive animal farming 
  b.. There are no strict rules to move away from pesticides and fertilisers 
  c.. No clear amount of money will be invested in restoring biodiversity  
  d.. Large farms, planting only one crop, using pesticides and having thousands of animals still get the biggest funds, while small and organic farmers are left behind 
It is really a missed opportunity to stop the destruction of our farmland, climate change and to support small farmers in Europe. We know that the fertile soil our lives depend on is disappearing. [2] We need to protect it to be able to produce food - especially in times of climate extremes.

But we also know change doesn't happen overnight. There?s still hope. We can farm in a way that is good for our planet and our health. And there are farmers that are already doing so. 

This fall, our partners Climate Farmers will run a webinar for our community to talk to us about what good farming can look like. [3] They?ll talk about how combining trees and farmland - agroecology - has a huge potential to restore healthy soil, save bees and birds and stop the climate crisis.

      What You Need to Know About the IPCC



      The anticipated Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report was just released, and 195 scientists confirmed that human activities have contributed to the climate crisis. This report comes out as we see the devastating climate impacts unfolding around the world.

      But, as alarming as the report may be, we want to focus on the good. The fact is we know who is responsible for the climate crisis: fossil fuel corporations.       Several European countries were hit with severe flooding claiming the lives of over 120 people and hundreds unaccounted for. It was reported that entire villages were destroyed, bridges collapsed, and hundreds of thousands of residents were left without electricity.

            The Gulf is filled with iconic endangered species, yet the EPA 
is letting fracking rigs dump poisonous waste into the water

                 The Gulf of Mexico's waters are a rich, abundant ecosystem, 
filled with some of the most iconic marine species, including whales, 
dolphins, manatees, sharks, and turtles, as well as corals and sea-faring 
birds like pelicans and egrets. Many of these species are also endangered or 
threatened, meaning they need our protection now. Yet the Gulf of Mexico is 
also increasingly home to toxic hydraulic fracturing ("fracking"), with 
upwards of 3,000 fracks occurring in the past 10 years. Along with this oil 
and gas extraction has come 66.3 million gallons of fracking waste, which 
has all been dumped straight into the Gulf waters, poisoning these animals' 
important home.

                  Since 2010, instances of fracking have increased in 
frequency ? it is now an almost daily fact of life. Despite this, 
researchers have been unable to investigate the health implications of 75% 
of the chemicals that fracking corportions use. Of the 25% of chemicals that 
have been studied, many are directly linked to various types of cancer, 
neurotoxicity, damage to reproductive organs, and also death. But the U.S. 
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has so far refused to limit the amount 
of fracking wastewater ? in other words, toxins ? that these corporations 
may discharge into Gulf waters, where countless animals live.

                  This is dangerous for us, it's dangerous for the animals, 
and it's dangerous for our whole Earth. Demand that the EPA ban fossil fuel 
corporations from releasing fracking waste into any type of waterways, and 
tell the governments of the U.S. and Mexico to ban all hydraulic fracturing 
operations in the Gulf of Mexico!

the outside of a massive US airplane while it took off, only for some to

Letter to Banks on Brazil Risk

Dear XXXX,

Under Bolsonaro's administration, Brazil is experiencing unprecedented 
assaults on Indigenous Peoples' rights and rollbacks on environmental 
protections. Throughout his term, we have witnessed a consistent dismantling 
of environmental governance and the stepping up of his government?s 
anti-environmental policy, rolling back enforcement, harassing civil 
servants, cutting environmental agencies? budgets, halting the collection of 
environmental fines, despite rising levels of deforestation.

This has resulted in alarming rates of deforestation with figures in 2020 
the highest for 12 years, and growing unchecked in 2021. In June this year, 
Brazil?s National Space Research Agency recorded the most fires in the 
Amazon region and in the Cerrado for 14 years, raising concerns about 
devastating fires to come amidst intense drought and emboldened loggers 
using ?slash and burn? clearing. Scientists have warned that, due to 
deforestation, degradation and fires, the Amazon rainforest is at a 
dangerous tipping point as it has started to emit more CO2 than it can 
absorb for the first time, which will invariably accelerate climate change 
and lead to increasing extreme events. This adds to an escalation of 
violence against Indigenous communities in the Amazon resisting mining and 
extractive activities on their lands, and against environmental defenders, 
already targeted by intimidation attempts by the Federal government.

As <business name> is a major investor in/financier of companies operating 
in Brazil, you must take action to ensure you are not complicit in the 
deforestation and degradation of the Amazon ecosystem ? critical to global 
carbon sequestration - and the violation of Indigenous Peoples? rights.

We?d like to call your special attention to a set of legislative changes 
being currently pushed in the Brazilian Congress, with support of Bolsonaro?s 
government and its allies, which will have irreversible consequences to 
environmental protection and Indigenous peoples? rights, and which represent 
serious risks to your operations in Brazil. This agenda, moved forward 
without proper public consultation, is strongly opposed by Brazilian civil 
society and the national Indigenous movement. Indigenous leaders in 
Brasilia, peacefully protesting against these legislative proposals were met 
with tear gas and rubber bullets by the police forces.

Among the bills being discussed in the Brazilian Congress which pose 
significant threats to social and environmental protections, we highlight:

Bill 490/2007, which would roll back constitutional protections on 
Indigenous lands. It is considered by the Association of Indigenous Peoples 
of Brazil (APIB) as a ?genocide attempt?;
Bill 191/2020, which aims to allow industrial and artisanal mining, 
hydroelectric generation, oil and gas exploration, and large-scale 
agriculture on Indigenous territories, virtually removing their veto power 
from decisions that impact their lands;
Bill 3729/2004 (now in the Senate as bill No. 2159/2021) that weakens the 
requirements for the licensing of infrastructure and extractive projects, 
exempts 13 types of impactful activities from licensing, and allows for 
?self licensing? for an array of projects;
Legislative Decree 177/2021 that would allow Brazil's withdrawal from 
Convention 169 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) (the main 
instrument in international law for the protection of Indigenous rights);
Bills 2633/2020 and 510 which pardon the occupation of public land in Brazil 
and would lead to a massive land grab of public lands, putting at risk some 
620 thousand km2 of forest that does not have any legal protection. 
According to studies, grabbing of public lands in Brazil represents a third 
of all deforestation.

For a detailed description and assessment of these legislative threats, in 
addition to other violations committed against the environment and 
indigenous peoples by the Brazilian State or by representatives of private 
interests, please refer to the International Complaints Dossier, developed 
by the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, launched on August 16th, 
attached to this message.

In addition to the various and serious problems contained in these bills, 
their approval, even if analyzed from the strict perspective of the more 
immediate interests of financial institutions, should be seen by the 
financial sector as a threat, reversing into an increase in social, legal, 
environmental and climate risks for the sector's institutions. For example, 
bill No. 2159/2021, which weakens environmental licensing, establishes that 
financial institutions have no supervisory duty in relation to the projects 
they fund, contrary to all the most recent discussions and guidelines on the 
subject. This will greatly expand not only social, environmental and climate 
risk factors, but will impose on financial institutions a more arduous and 
costly task of monitoring and managing exposures to such risks.

The weakening of social and environmental rules in Brazil also hampers 
compliance with current and proposed legal requirements related to due 
diligence in export markets such as the EU and the UK, with impacts in 
Brazil?s ability to export deforestation-linked products to Europe. It 
violates the terms of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, jeopardizing its 
negotiation. In the face of such risks, in May, a group of 40 international 
grocery, food supply, and investment companies wrote an open letter to the 
Brazilian Congress with threats to boycott all Brazilian agricultural 
products if ?measures that undermine these existing protections [of the 
Amazon] become law?.

But this is not yet enough to create change. Given this escalating crisis, 
we believe that banks and investors like xxx have a responsibility to use 
their position and influence to take concrete action against these setbacks. 
Thus we strongly recommend xxx to take a hard line, in public and private, 
against this regressive legislative agenda put forward by the Bolsonaro 
administration and its allies in the Brazilian Congress. That includes 
taking a public stance against all bills that weaken protections for forests 
and Indigenous peoples, calling the attention of the political and economic 
actors behind them to your commitment to eliminating deforestation and 
protecting the rights of Indigenous peoples and other forest-dependent 
communities; and to encourage your peers and companies that rely on your 
funding to do the same.

This call adds to other standing recommendations by our coalition and its 
allies to commit financial institutions to move away from investments that 
threaten forests and the rights of Indigenous peoples, and thus not 
contribute further to deforestation and human rights violations in Brazil.

Europe?s only whale sanctuary is under threat. All because profit-seeking

Today, more than sixteen species of whales and dolphins find safety in a

sanctuaries in the entire world, it?s a gem we can all be proud of. [2]

              3.. Put people back in charge - Big Tech cannot continue to call the shots as judge and jury. The DSA must create stronger powers for regulators to hold Big Tech to account, including through robust audit powers that cannot simply be gamed by the companies.  
            These companies are spending over ?20Million to lobby and influence the EU parliament to drastically water down the Digital Services Act (DSA) so they ensure that no rules, except maximize profit, apply to them!

                                Let's act now to push leaders to bring real ambition to the table -- to save our biological diversity and stem the climate crisis we need to protect at least half of the world?s land and sea by the end of this decade. It?s time these leaders hear from each and every one of us. Here are some tips of what you can say:


                                1.. We can't waste time ignoring science: protecting at least half of the planet by 2030 is a science-based target, not a political compromise. 
                                2.. Fires, floods, famine and plague - what more needs to happen before decision-makers take action? 
                                3.. The Earth is warming faster than we thought. If we don't protect at least half of the planet by 2030, we will never reach the 1.5?C degrees goal. 
                                4.. Over one million species could go extinct in the next fifty years if we do not set aside enough habitat to protect them. 
                                5.. Passing Motion 101 to protect at least half of the planet by 2030 can set the ambition for the rest of the world -- science must be the North star 
                                While an international negotiation is a political compromise per se, we must avoid compromises that don't bring us to conserve at least half of the planet by 2030. We cannot afford less. And we cannot compromise on our survival. From the top universities on the planet to the deepest jungles -- both Indigenous wisdom and scientific evidence have never been so crystal clear that we must immediately stop the bleeding of our planet. Let's join our voices and push our leaders into action.

                                New Global Biodiversity Agreement: China to Host a Two-Part Summit on Nature 

                                Bonn, 19/08/2021 - The Convention on Biological Diversity has issued the programme for its next Conference and Meetings of the Parties and to be held in Kunming, China. It also opened the registration for media.

                                The conferences (COP15/COP-MOP10/COP-MOP4) are organized in two parts. Part 1 will take place on 11-15 October 2021 as a virtual event. It will include an online high-level segment. 

                                The in-person meetings and Part 2 of the conferences will resume on 25 April - 8 May 2022 in Kunming, China, where Parties will conclude negotiations and decide on the new Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. A high-level segment will also take place. 

                                The Open-Ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework will meet online starting next week, 23 August - 3 September 2021, to prepare the advance draft text. A high-level segment is also planned for this session.

                                Decisive in-person meetings that were planned for October 2021 in China were paused for a few more months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

                                Online accreditation of media for the events taking place now is available immediately. Accreditation for next years' meeting will open at a future date.

                              As the Taliban continues to solidify power in Afghanistan following the United States? military withdrawal, other foreign powers including Russia and China have begun diplomatic engagement with the terrorist group?s leaders. Beijing has suggested that they could support the Taliban if they cut ties with a separatist movement in China?s Xinjiang province where they are incarcerating millions of Uighurs. Last month, Taliban leaders met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi where he promised that China would not interfere in Afghanistan?s internal affairs and that the Taliban would be expected to ?play an important role in the process of peace, reconciliation and reconstruction? of the country. Similarly, Russia has expressed interest in cooperating with the Taliban but has simultaneously demonstrated caution by expanding military exercises with neighboring Tajikistan. Moscow has designated the Taliban as a terrorist group but has hosted Taliban officials several times in recent years. US military intelligence also concluded that Russia worked with the Taliban as recently as 2019 by offering bounties for US soldiers in Afghanistan. Finally, many experts believe that Pakistan has played a major role in the Taliban?s unexpectedly swift takeover of Afghanistan?s capital, Kabul. For many years the US has suspected ties between Pakistan?s intelligence agency and the Taliban.
                               
                              Other foreign powers have supported the Afghan people and condemned the Taliban?s human rights record and treatment of women and girls. Following an emergency meeting of its Foreign Ministers, the European Union stated that it will only cooperate with the Taliban if they respect fundamental rights, including those of women, and prevent the use of Afghanistan?s territory by terrorists. The EU has no plans of recognizing the Taliban as the legitimate government but will work with the terrorist group on humanitarian issues and evacuating its citizens. The United Nations has advocated for an end to hostilities in Afghanistan, humanitarian aid to the country, and the creation of a representative government that will protect the rights of women  and keep the country from once again becoming a haven for global terrorist plots.

The spirit of Helsinki is being pursued in active foreign policy  

President Sauli Niinist? is working intensively to ensure that Helsinki hosts a major summit during the OSCE conference's anniversary year 2025. The Helsinki spirit from the 1975 conference is emphasized as a recipe for bringing the parties closer together in today's multilateral world. ?

It was in March that President Sauli Niinist? in a column in Helsingin Sanomat first suggested that the 50th anniversary of the OSCE conference in Helsinki should be celebrated with a summit of heads of state in 2025. ?

At the Ambassadors? Conference (Helsinki) earlier this week, he returned to the issue and devoted a central part of his speech to the idea of a summit in 2025 and the importance of a resurrected Helsinki spirit. After decades of disagreement and tensions - Hungary in 1956, the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968 - a constructive dialogue was launched with the aim of creating at least a minimum of trust and policy of detente. ?

In his speech at the Ambassadors? Conference, he built on his previous hope for a broad summit in Helsinki in four years. He sees it as natural that Finland should also shoulder the chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) during the anniversary year. Niinist? indicated that the issue will be raised later this week when OSCE Secretary-General Helga Maria Schmid visits Helsinki.

According to the President, there is a great need to reaffirm the Helsinki Principles of 1975 and to restore the functioning of the entire organization. The final declaration from Helsinki contains, among other things, formulations on sovereign equality, inviolability of borders, peaceful resolution of disagreements, cooperation between states and respect for human rights.

The need for real dialogue, even across bloc borders, is necessary. A certain amount of trust should be built up regardless of how frosty some relationships right now seem to be.

Niinist? claims to have probed the terrain regarding a Helsinki meeting and received encouraging reactions from various headquarters, including central places such as Berlin, Moscow, Washington and Beijing. Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto (Green Party) has also promoted the President's thoughts in his contacts with Foreign Minister colleagues.

Finland will achieve and has at the moment other visible roles in international politics. In October, Finland is likely to be elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the next three years, and this is a platform that should be taken into account. This autumn, Finland will also begin a two-year presidency of the Barents Council at the same time chairing  the last months of the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

At the same time, the Finnish government wants to see the EU as a major power factor and expresses concern about the anonymous and withdrawn role of EU in today's world - most recently in connection with the events in Afghanistan. At the Ambassadors? Conference, this was an issue in several speeches. President Niinist? stated that he has long been concerned about how Europe has lost ground compared to other centers of power. According to him, more power, unity, determination and commitment in a jointly chosen line are required. Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP), the one who really has the EU issues on her table, also said that we need to work consistently for a more active Europe, independent of the political economic fluctuations in other states, and that power of action goes hand in hand with greater European responsibility. ?

                              Some of the world's biggest investors have been linked to deforestation of crucial habitats like the Amazon Rainforest. In our top read this week, BBC Future's Alexander Matthews examines whether they can they use their financial might to stop deforestation in its tracks.

                              When you think of your retirement savings, your bank, or your investments, it's unlikely that you associate these with trees being chopped down in lush tropical rainforests. And yet, well-known banks, asset managers and other financial institutions either own shares in or provide credit to companies that have links to deforestation.

                              This reliance on finance to deforest crucial habitats begs the question: how can financial institutions turn the tables and help protect the world's forests?

                              Between 2001 and 2015, almost a third of the world's deforestation was due to commodity production ? including cattle, soy, palm oil and paper. In Brazil, where deforestation has reached a 12-year high, the chief reason is beef. Two-thirds of cleared land in the Amazon and the Cerrado savannah have been converted to cattle pasture, the authors of one study conclude. As well as driving huge biodiversity loss, this makes the Brazilian cattle sector responsible for one-fifth of all emissions from commodity-driven deforestation across the entire tropics.

                              Deforestation could not happen on this scale without vast financial investment. Loans totalling $249bn (?176bn) were extended to companies linked to deforestation between 2013 and April 2020, while equity investments in such companies amounted to $37bn (?26bn) as of April 2020, according to the database Forests and Finance, a database developed by an international coalition of research groups and civil society organisations.

                              Meanwhile, three of the world's largest asset managers, BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street, had $12.1bn (?8.6bn) invested in producers and traders whose activities are claimed to be directly driving deforestation, according to one analysis by the environmental campaign group Friends of the Earth in September 2020.

                              Turning off the funding sources for deforestation has become a target for many people working to preserve the habitats on which the world, and the climate, rely.

              3.. Put people back in charge - Big Tech cannot continue to call the shots as judge and jury. The DSA must create stronger powers for regulators to hold Big Tech to account, including through robust audit powers that cannot simply be gamed by the companies.  
            These companies are spending over ?20Million to lobby and influence EU parliament to drastically water down the Digital Services Act (DSA) so that they can ensure no rules, except maximizing profit, apply to them!

     With the support of the European Union, dedicated to the International Youth Day, CENN held the Youth for Community competition for the people living in Shida Kartli, Kakheti, and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions.

       

      Within the competition revealed 4 winners in the following categories:

        a.. Young Entrepreneur;
        b.. Young Creator;
        c.. Young Environmentalist.
       

      We are pleased to introduce them!

       

        1.. Young Environmentalist ? Iiman Borchashvili
       

      Iiman Borchashvili is a young environmentalist living in the Akhmeta municipality, specifically in Pankisi Valley and studies in a public school in the village of Duisi. Iiman is keen on environmental issues since 2018 when she was involved in the Niko Ketskhoveli School Award, and ever since she, with her friends, is actively participating in activities aimed at tackling environmental problems. 

       

        2.. Young Entrepreneur ? Nia Khachapuridze
       

      By developing ecotourism and gastro tourism, Nia aims to strengthen the local community and promote Dzama Valley as a tourism destination. To achieve her goal, Nia opened a guest house ?Bokneti? which offers an authentic environment and culture to tourists. The hotel?s electricity needs are generated from solar power.

       

        3.. Young Creator ? Giorgi Talakhadze
       

      Giorgi lives in Gori and, since childhood, has actively been involved in voluntary work. His interests are diverse and the majority of them are related to youth and community development. From 2021, Giorgi created a board game club ?Ganjafa? to provide education to youth in an alternative way; Board game club successfully hosts people enjoying similar youth activities.

       

        4.. Young Entrepreneur ? Ketevan Javakhishvili
       

      Ketevan is from Gori municipality, the village of Khurvaleti, located on the border of the occupation line. She always worried about the local issues and was looking for ways to support her community in overcoming those challenges. Eventually, Ketevan and her sister, Lia Javakhishvili, decided to start up a social enterprise that would give working opportunities to local IDP women.

       

      The "Youth for Community" Competition is organized as part of the EU-supported project "EU4Youth: Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (SEED) for Green Growth" implemented by CENN in partnership with KRDF and Green Lane (Armenia). The aim of the project is to discover the entrepreneurial potential in the most vulnerable municipalities and to promote entrepreneurship opportunities among youth.

            UK Farmers can legally feed their animals plastic, and it's showing up in our food. Plastic doesn't belong on anybody's plate!

                  Your food might be laden with toxic plastic fibers. That's right: in the first ever study of its kind, researchers at the Environment Agency Austria found microplastics in human waste. How did it get there? One way is through farming practices in places like the UK, where the government actually allows farmers to include plastic in up to 0.15% of farmed animals' feed. This is largely because unused human food, including Mars candy bars and bread loaves, is then repurposed into becoming animal feed ? even while it is still wrapped in plastic. 

                  As a result, scientists estimate that more than 50% of people around the world might have microplastics on their dinner plates, in their guts, and therefore in their stools. Even worse, researchers suspect that these microplastics could have a serious effect on our immune systems and harm patients with gastrointestinal diseases in particular. During an ongoing deadly pandemic, that's really bad news. Neither animals nor humans should be eating plastic. That's a no-brainer. Please sign the petition to demand that the U.K. Food Standards Agency ban the use of any plastic in the feed of animals raised for human consumption!

                              In our top read this week, Mongabay's Sue Branford examines a revolutionary method to reverse semiarid land degradation emerging in Guanajuato state in central Mexico.

                              Land degradation is impacting farmlands worldwide, affecting almost 40% of the world?s population. Reversing that process and restoring these croplands and pastures to full productivity is a huge challenge facing humanity ? especially as climate change-induced drought takes greater hold on arid and semiarid lands.

                              In Mexico, a university-educated, small-scale peasant farmer came up with an untried innovative solution that not only restores degraded land to productivity, but also greatly enhances soil carbon storage, provides a valuable new crop, and even offers a hopeful diet for diabetics.

                              The process utilises two plants commonly found on semiarid lands that grow well under drought conditions: agave and mesquite. The two are intercropped and then the agave is fermented and mixed with the mesquite to produce an excellent, inexpensive, and very marketable fodder for grazing animals.

                              The new technique is achieving success in Mexico and could be applied to global degraded lands. It is, says one expert ?among the most soil regenerative schemes on Earth ? deployed on degraded land, basically overgrazed and unsuitable for growing crops, with no irrigation or chemical inputs required whatsoever.?

she asked.Her life had been obliterated overnight -- she could no longer 
write under her own name, or say where she was. She didn't know if she?d see 
her family again, or whether she?d even survive.She?s not alone. Since the 
US announced they're leaving and the Taliban swept across Afghanistan, 
thousands are living in fear and hiding underground. Some have clung onto 
airplanes in a desperate bid to escape, and devastating bomb attacks just 
killed dozens of people at Kabul airport.Our movement can not look away.The 
Taliban have said foreign forces have to withdraw from the country by 
Tuesday, which means every day counts to help save lives. A group of 
organisations and activists are determined to keep delivering critical 
services even beyond this deadline, despite the risks to them and their

                                The people of Afghanistan have been through 
more than most of us could ever imagine. Whole generations have been trapped 
in senseless wars and foreign invasion, kids born into conflict, refugee 
camps, or under brutally repressive rule.

                                But many have fought for their most basic of 
rights -- the right for girls to go to school, women to go to work, and for 
all to live free from abuse. And now, they?re terrified they've been 
abandoned, and fear a Taliban government could see them lose everything 
they've poured blood, sweat, and tears into trying to build.

                                It's not just foreign troops pulling out. 
Big donors have also frozen funds. But humanitarian aid, already desperately 
needed before the insurgency, is now absolutely critical to support the most 
vulnerable inside the country, providing urgent shelter from the Taliban, 
and getting Afghans to safety.

                                That?s where we come in. If enough of us 
chip in today, we can:

shelter, and medical supplies to vulnerable communities and those displaced;
                                b.. support local refugee responses in 
neighbouring countries and elsewhere welcoming thousands of refugees;

                 New South Wales, Australia is experiencing an 
overpopulation crisis from mice, which are destroying farmers' crops and 
posing a threat to vulnerable people's health. Unfortunately, NSW 
Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall has proposed an unnatural, short-sighted 
plan to use an extremely powerful poison (he called it "the most powerful 
poison that we can get our hands on") called bromadiolone. The bromadiolone 
will be applied to some of the mice's sources of food.

                  The problem is the poison is so potent it will not only 
kill the mice, but kill a lot of animals up the food chain who feed on them. 
Sign the petition to urge against this choice in mouse control in NSW!

                  Some of the other animals that will die in addition to 
mice are the free-roaming cats that feed on them (including helpful barn 
cats) and birds of prey! Other birds and wildlife may be collateral damage 
as well. NSW Agriculture Minister Marshall doesn't deny that pets, 
livestock, and wildlife will die. There are other pesticide that do not pose 
a threat to other animals they could use instead. Sign the petition to 
demand a ban on using bromadiolone as mouse control in NWS!

            Corporate lobbyists are poisoning the Earth by poisoning our 
lawmakers' priorities against us

                 We are almost certainly going to hit 1.5 degrees Celsius 
warming. A groundbreaking new U.N. report shows we've already raced past the 
global 1 degree warming point, and are likely to hit 1.5 degrees within the 
next 10 years. Even though wildfires are racing through huge parts of the 
United States, drought and heat waves are assaulting many areas of the 
globe, and storms such as hurricanes are worsening, leaders have been slow 
to act. The main reason the U.S. hasn't tackled climate change yet? 
Corporate lobbyists from dirty fossil fuel and automobile corporations spend 
millions of dollars ensuring their profits ? instead of the world's future ? 
are lawmakers' top priority.

                  There's no room for regressive corporate money-grabbers in 
this "debate." The next big milestone that we, as a society, MUST AVOID 
hitting is when the Earth warms to 2 degrees Celsius past the baseline point 
from pre-industrial years. After that, coastal cities would be swallowed, 
the Greenland ice sheet would be gone, and countless endangered species, 
including monarch butterflies, koalas, many whales, and more would be 
decimated. Congress says it wants the American people to trust it more. It 
can start that process by passing new, pro-democracy, pro-people, 
pro-environmental legislation. Sign the petition to demand an end to the era 
of corporate money and dirty energy lobbyists tainting our political 
process!
