streets

Thousands of refugees on the Greek island of
Lesbos have been sleeping on the streets since fires destroyed the Moria
refugee camp they had called home. The Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees has offered assistance to refugees in the region
as well as Greek authorities, and leaders in France and Germany are working

girls

Houthi rebels in Yemen recruited 34 teenage
girls to work as spies, guards, medics or to recruit other children and 12
of the girls were reportedly sexually abused or forced into marriage,
according to a report commissioned by the United Nations Human Rights
Council. "The international community has a responsibility to put an end to
this pandemic of impunity, and should not turn a blind eye to the gross
violations that have been committed in Yemen," says Kamel Jendoubi, chair of
the expert panel responsible for the report.Full Story: The Associated Press

Governments around the world have not met
2020 goals on protecting plant and wildlife biodiversity, and the loss of
important habitats remains "worryingly high," according to a draft report
from the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. Reversing the
negative trends will require "a reinvention of the ways in which we
collectively produce, consume and live," the report says.Full Story: Climate
