How Cities Are Balancing COVID-19 Response and Recovery
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we have
shifted the focus of the C40 Newsletter to highlight global cities
responding to the virus and planning an equitable and sustainable recovery
for our people, our planet, and our economies.
MAYORS IN ACTION
On April 29, the 11 C40 mayors who make up our
newly launched Global Mayors COVID-19 Recovery Task Force convened for the
first time. Ahead of the meeting, Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan and chair of
the Task Force, emphasized the importance of the diverse group of mayors and
what recovery must entail:
“I am honoured to chair such an outstanding
group of mayors in our quest for the best recovery strategy for cities after
the COVID-19 pandemic. We know we do not want to take any steps back from
our commitment on creating more sustainable, more equitable and healthier
cities. We know we do not want to leave any fellow citizen behind. Our
cities face an unprecedented challenge now and we are motivated to draw from
our collective experience to provide support and guidance to mayors around
the world. We must be ambitious and focused as well as creative. I thank
fellow mayors for their trust and collaboration.”
