The last few weeks have been unbelievable. Everywhere people are mourning 
loved ones lost to COVID-19. Families are struggling with school closures. 
Workers are scared that their jobs won’t return after the crisis.

But we’re learning things, too. The critical importance of health and care 
staff. The enormous potential for innovation by scientists looking for a 
vaccine. The resourcefulness of communities coming together to support one 
another.

The final chapters in the story of COVID-19 won’t be written for some time, 
but the decisions we make in the next few weeks will determine what they 
are. Do we allow more people to fall into poverty, or get serious about 
universal basic income? How do we make sure our recovery protects our 
climate as well as our economies?

WeMove Europe is ready to play our part in calling for the right kind of 
recovery from COVID-19: one that puts people, communities and our planet at

Here’s how the WeMove Europe community is already campaigning for a 
responsible recovery from coronavirus:

  a.. Pressuring European governments to make the biggest investment in 
sustainable technology and infrastructure ever, so 2020 is the year we turn 
our economies green
  b.. Campaigning for the medicines that can help treat COVID-19 to be made 
affordable for everyone
  c.. Telling Europe’s leaders to sign up to coronabonds, so that all 
countries - not just the richest economies - can borrow affordable money to 
help them to recover from the crisis
  d.. Calling on Europe’s leaders to create an Unconditional Basic Income, 
to make sure no-one falls further into poverty because of COVID-19
People power has never been more important. As governments scramble to 
respond, we have a unique chance to make the case for big change, because 
the last few weeks have proved it’s possible: in just days, we saw 
homelessness reduced to almost zero in some cities, prototype vaccines 
developed in weeks not months, and whole hospitals built overnight.

The WeMove Europe staff team is small, and we’re working alongside our 
members to plan the best way to help shape the COVID-19 recovery. The 
campaigns above are just the start. There’s so much more we could do to 
protect public services and the planet, and build a thriving Europe that can 
take a vital role in the world after the crisis ends.

WeMove doesn’t take donations from big corporations, or governments. We rely 
on small donations from our members to do our work. Can you chip in, so we

The opportunity to set the stage for the generations to come doesn’t come 
along very often. But when it does, the potential is huge. After World War 
Two, people worked together to build the United Nations, lay the foundations 
of the European Union and create international laws that protected people 
from genocide and war crimes in the future.

Now, we have our chance to set the tone for the decades ahead. We can push 
back against dangerous climate change, and tackle inequality. We can use 
this moment to reverse the rise of the far-right, because COVID-19 is 
proving that communities survive when they stand together.

campaigns for a responsible COVID-19 recovery - here are just a few:

  a.. Gather a group of citizens to meet with European decision makers in 
webinars, so the people in charge know what the crisis means for the rest of 
us when they are making choices for the future
  b.. Show-stopping media tactics, like hologram projections on EU 
buildings, to help shape the media landscape
  c.. Buying ads in newspapers read all over Europe, to make sure everyone 
knows about the message of our campaigns
