Airplanes are dumping toxic glyphosate on Indigenous land in Canada, and Indigenous elders desperately need your help to fight back. Can you chip in so Indigenous elders can win a historic lawsuit to stop glyphosate aerial spraying? Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Donate $1 now Thanks for all that you do, Amelia -------------------------------------------------------------------- A small group of Indigenous elders is suing the Canadian government to stop toxic glyphosate raining down on their land. Without you, they won?t be able to win this lawsuit and companies will keep poisoning their land. Can you chip in today to stop this rain of death? Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Donate $1 now Airplanes are flying over indigenous land in Canada and pouring thousands of litres of toxic glyphosate on their forests. Plants are being wiped out. Animals are disappearing. And Indigenous people who live on the land are facing a crisis. The Canadian government is refusing to protect indigenous territory from glyphosate -- but you could help stop this ?rain of death?. This small group of brave Indigenous elders have hired top-notch lawyers to fight the Canadian government in court and stop the glyphosate rain, but without your help, the lawsuit is dead in the water. Suing the government will cost them over $100,000 -- can you donate today to keep this battle of a lifetime going? Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Yes, I'll chip in $1 to stop glyphosate raining on indigenous land! Glyphosate is Bayer-Monsanto?s favorite pesticide. It kills bees. And it?s dangerous to humans too -- over 13,000 people are suing Monsanto, blaming glyphosate for causing their cancer. And as planes drench their forests with this poison, Indigenous communities have watched in horror as beavers, rabbits, songbirds, and porcupines disappear from their land. They also can?t eat or make medicine out of, glyphosate doused plants. Legal battles are long and expensive, and because of the backing of SumOfUs members like you, these courageous elders have started the legal process. But they can?t pay the legal fees to keep the lawsuit going, and ban glyphosate spraying on their land, without your help. Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Vladimir, can you chip in $1 to help Indigenous Elders beat back glyphosate? SumOfUs members like you are bringing toxic glyphosate to an end. You fought the re-licensing of glyphosate across Europe, and thousands of you donated to Monsanto cancer-victim Dewayne Lee Johnson throughout his historic legal case. And together, we?re winning. Countries across the world are banning the toxic pesticide. Retailers like Costco are getting glyphosate off store shelves. Bayer-Monsanto?s value is plummeting, and even its own shareholders are revolting against glyphosate! You've shown time and time again that when ordinary people come together, we can take on even the biggest corporate giants. And with your help today, this small group of Indigenous elders in Canada can make history. Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Yes, I will chip in $1 to stop aerial glyphosate spraying on indigenous land! Sign the petition Right now, thanks to a legal loophole, corporate bully Nestl? is siphoning off Michigan?s groundwater turning it into cheap Ice Mountain bottled water and making a fortune off the resources of small communities. A brave group of Michigan lawmakers is standing up to Nestl?. They?re fighting to close the loophole and give back control of Michigan?s water to the people. But they can?t do it without your help. By demanding that elected representatives vote for three new Water Protection bills, we can stop Nestl? from profiting at the expense of local communities. Tell lawmakers to protect Michigan?s water supply from greedy corporations like Nestl?. If passed, the Water Protection Package would be a major blow to Nestl? and a big win for local communities. Not only will the Water Protection Package shut down the water-bottling loophole, it will also state that water is 100% a public good and is not something to be commercialized. Together with local communities, we have scored some major victories against Nestl?. Just last month, a court overturned a decision that would have forced the Michigan township of Osceola to issue a permit to Nestl? to build a massive water pumping station. It was a huge win after a dogged three-year fight. In the last three years, over 375,000 SumOfUs members from around the world and tens of thousands of Michiganders have fought against Nestl??s attempt to suck Michigan dry. And together we have taken on Nestl? around the world and won -- pushing for water legislation in British Columbia, Canada, winning against its French brand Vittel, and stopping Nestl? in its tracks in Cascade Locks, Oregon. Let?s stop Nestl? for good in Michigan. Sign the petition and tell lawmakers that our water is too precious to turn into a cheap plastic drink. DONATE $1 NOW Donald Trump is salivating to tell US voters he?s done a deal so American megafarms can sell hormone-stuffed beef and chlorinated chicken from Paris to Prague. Right now, these nasty products are banned in Europe. But Phil Hogan, the EU Trade Commissioner, could be prepared to offer Trump the chance to flood Europe with nightmare meats in order to strike a new trade agreement in the next few weeks. This 33rd Ordinary Summit, which commenced on 21st January, will run until the 10th of February. Comprising statutory meetings and side events, the summit is being held under the African Union?s theme for the year 2020; Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions For Africa?s Development. Silencing the Guns is a commitment to achieve the Aspirations of Africa's Agenda 2063, specifically Aspiration 4, which envisions a peaceful and secure Africa. Agenda 2063 is Africa?s blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. It is the continent?s strategic framework that aims to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance. The genesis of Agenda 2063 was the realisation by African leaders that there was a need to prioritise inclusive social and economic development, continental and regional integration, democratic governance and peace and security amongst other issues aimed at repositioning Africa to becoming a dominant player in the global arena. Exam to Italy on the agricultural job market Hilal Elver, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food, points the finger at the Italian food system which is considered sophisticated to the point of straining Italian workers and farmers: despite a gross domestic product (GDP) estimated at 2.84 trillion dollars, world-class innovative companies, a large agricultural sector and modern production capacities, small farmers are exploited in Italy. After an 11-day visit to Italy, the picture is not edifying. Elver underlines that ?As a developed country and the third largest economy in Europe, these levels of poverty and food insecurity in Italy are unacceptable. The Italian government should understand that food charity is not to be confused with the right to food?. Migrant workers are clearly the most vulnerable. Between 450 and 500 thousand migrants work in Italy in the sector, representing about half of the workforce. Seasonal and non-seasonal workers often find in the capolarato the only opportunity to sell their workforce and get paid in the system. The unloading and burning of contaminated products in rural areas, the purchase of land with illicit cash, the use of toxic fertilizers, often sprayed by workers without their knowledge, complete a shameful and worrying picture. You and I were already celebrating -- together with 82% of Austrians, who support the ban. But then everything changed when Austria?s government refused to implement the law in the last minute. Their excuse: a ?legal technicality.? In the months before, Bayer-Monsanto and powerful agricultural lobbies piled massive pressure onto the Austrian government, claiming a glyphosate ban would open Austria to costly lawsuits. And now it was their turn to celebrate. But we couldn't just sit back and let Bayer-Monsanto win. A few weeks ago, Austria's new government was sworn in -- and SumOfUs members around the world sprang into action, to remind the politicians that banning glyphosate should be a top priority. Thousands of SumOfUs members chipped in to put an ad on the front page of Austria?s biggest and most influential newspaper with two million daily readers -- in a country of eight million. You called on the newly elected chancellor Kurz to listen to the Austrian people and finally implement the glyphosate ban. This Valentine?s Day we want justice for children, not chocolate made by children! Our continuing investigation reveals that the hazelnuts that end up in Nutella and Ferrero Rocher are likely picked by children in Turkey.[1] Ferrero recently confirmed that they buy from a merchant who supplies hazelnuts from farms where we found child labour. [2] Now that our story has been published all over the world and close to 90,000 have signed our petition, one of our targets, Ferrero?s Hazelnut Company Officer, has agreed to meet with us in early March to ?find solutions.? This will be our first meeting with Ferrero. To get the most out of it, we need to show Ferrero that our demands are supported by a lot of citizens (and potential customers) from all over Europe. This is where you come in! On Valentine?s Day when many people will be buying hazelnut-filled Ferrero Rochers, let?s post this picture on Ferrero's Facebook page demanding action! Our demands for Ferrero And when we meet Ferrero in early March, with your support we?ll have the backing necessary to make sure the chocolate company responds to each of our demands. Help us ensure Ferrero stops child labour We wanted to meet in Turkey so that Ferrero could speak to farmers and labourers, the very people who harvest the hazelnuts used by Ferrero, who are paid far below living wage, and as a result bring their children to work with them. But for now they?ve refused - instead we will meet with them 1-2-1 in Rome. Help us show Ferrero that we mean business and that our community will not let up until Ferrero takes action. Send Ferrero your comment + our demands to stop child labour We?ll update you on how our meeting went with Ferrero. We crowdfunded the investigation into Ferrero back in June 2019 and launched the petition at the end of last year. This year, we?re not going to give them any respite: we?re hoping to go back to Turkey in the summer during the hazelnut season to see if anything has changed, and with our partners Global March and 100 million we?ll be lobbying for a EU law to address human rights and environmental abuses in corporate supply chains. He lives in Australia, near the edge of the fires. And he woke up to the mournful sound of a black cockatoo outside his window, alone. Black cockatoos are never alone, they are supposed to travel in intimately connected flocks. But the fires had ravaged this majestic bird?s home and likely, his family. For Paul, and all of us in that coffee chat, it was too much. The devastation of Paul?s home country felt too familiar to all of us facing the very real impact of climate change on our communities. But there was so much hope too: Renee, who honors her daughter?s life, cut short from a car accident when she was 21, by showcasing a movie they made together about the amazing solutions to climate change being pioneered by activists and community leaders across the globe. Or Ing, who used her experience and knowledge from a long career as an economist to publish a roadmap for a new kind of economy that regulates corporations and serves human beings. Or Rama who told us about how India had grown so green from community tree-planting efforts that it had changed color on satellite images from space. Meeting the incredible community that powers SumOfUs, I was inspired by the deep connection, empathy and intelligence of our global membership. And that?s how I know I landed the best job in the world: serving 15 million members who work together to put people at the center of our global economies and protect against corporate abuses and exploitation. As the new Executive Director, I am excited to build on this movement, to help people make more impact with the time they give, to ensure the community grows and reaches new kindred spirits and expands to new languages and new countries. We are, in some ways, at the beginning of our story. SumOfUs is coming of age in a world that desperately needs people-powered solutions to an economic system that, time-and-time again, fails to serve people. As the climate crisis, the disinformation crisis, and the economic crisis grow, SumOfUs members are needed more than ever to insert human and creative possibilities for change. Together, we must stand as a red line against those who seek to use moments of instability for profit, violence and exploitation. Members play an instrumental part in planning for this critical moment in our collective story. Over the last few weeks, members finished a global survey that helps us chart our course for the coming years, spent countless hours in meetings with me held over an 18 hour period, and shared their campaign ideas and priorities. All the while not slowing their campaigning ? winning an end to Credit Suisse?s support for toxic ocean dumping, making huge media waves at Apple?s annual general meeting with a demand for human rights protections, and working to make Uber a champion for the environment. Check out the video to meet other members of SumOfUs (and see the amazing experience I got to have in our global coffee chat). Canada is one of the biggest producers of food in the world. So it?s bad news for the entire world?s bee population if Bayer manages to scupper the hard-fought ban on neonic pesticides. Scientists around the world agree that neonic pesticides are causing bees to drop dead. Which is why the government?s claims of new evidence are so suspicious. We need to get to the bottom of this and make sure Bayer isn?t meddling in Canada?s neonic ban. But we can?t commission expert investigators for free -- can you chip in so we can get started today? Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Yes, I can chip in $1 to get this bee-killing pesticide ban. Vladimir, SumOfUs members like you have been at the forefront of the fight for the bees. Just this past week, you won another victory against new neonic pesticides in France. Pesticide giants like Bayer and Dow will stop at nothing to keep their bee-killing products on the market. That?s why your help is so critical. We may never have the same financial might as Bayer, but we have something better -- people power. Can you step up? Donating just takes a moment -- use Paypal or your card. Yes, I?m in for $1, we can?t live without bees. You?ve probably heard us talk a lot about our upcoming 2020 trainings and there?s a reason for that. Our trainings provide everyday people with the tools and network to help shape public opinion, inspire action in their communities, and become leaders in the global fight for a better, more sustainable tomorrow. Applications are now being accepted for our upcoming training in San Antonio, Texas from April 14-16. Here are four things you might not know about our trainings: 1. WE TAILOR OUR EVENTS TO THE PLACES THEY ARE HELD Wherever we go, we work hard to make sure our trainings reflect the local community. We tailor our programs to focus on regional issues, feature speakers from the area, and hold our trainings in venues that are easily accessible to local activists looking to make a difference for the future of the planet. 2. WE PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO HELP COMMUNITIES NOT NORMALLY REPRESENTED IN THE CLIMATE CONVERSATION ATTEND Historically, one of the biggest barriers to attending a Climate Reality Leadership Corps training has been the cost of travel. While there is no fee to attend the training, and all food and training materials are provided, attendees are responsible for getting themselves to the training location and for their stay there. That?s why Climate Reality provides a limited number of scholarships to help people overcome this barrier and build a more inclusive and powerful movement. 3. ALL MEALS ARE VEGETARIAN AND LOCAL It?s no secret that animal agriculture is a significant source of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions driving the climate crisis, accounting for about 14.5 percent of all anthropogenic emissions. That?s why, at our trainings, attendees are fueled by hearty meals that are entirely vegetarian, with vegan options available. And because we don?t like to see any of the great meals we serve go to waste, we also undertake a number of strategies to reduce both food waste and any refuse that might find its way to a landfill. 4. WE ACCOUNT FOR EVENT-RELATED EMISSIONS We?re aware that the trainings may be distant from some attendees? homes ? though we make every effort to recruit heavily for our events from the host region ? and that event-related air travel is a contributor to carbon pollution. In addition to implementing an event sustainability strategy to reduce the emissions from the event itself, we measure related emissions, including air travel, and neutralize those emissions via verifiable carbon offsets. We hope you can join us for a training this year! We?ve got a plan to expose the investment banks footing the bill for climate chaos -- but we need your help to pull it off. Donate $1 now Last week Antarctica broke its record for highest-ever recorded temperature. It was warm enough for shorts and t-shirts. Let that sink in. Our planet is sending us a grave warning, and we need to listen. People like you and me try to do our bit every day. Meanwhile, a handful of corporations unleash carbon on an eye-watering scale -- just 100 companies are responsible for over 71% of all greenhouse gas emissions. These companies won?t change a thing as long as they?re making money. But guess what: they rely on a tiny handful of banks to stay in business. And some of these banks are getting cold feet about investing their trillions in cooking the Earth. If these banks defund fossil fuels, it could literally reset our global economy and paint it green for generations to come. If you donate today, we can build a team of experts that will expose the finance industry's responsibility for climate chaos and force them to change. This could be the turning point for our planet, but we simply can?t do it without your help today. You can make this plan a reality, Vladimir. Chip in $1 today to hold the worst climate criminals to account. Yes, I'll chip $1 today to fight climate chaos. The investment banks leading the world over the cliff of climate catastrophe are household names -- JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Bank of America, Wells Fargo -- but their ties to the fossil fuel industry aren?t as well known. If you help make these banks just as famous for fueling climate chaos as they are for having their names plastered all over sports stadiums, you can cause an investor uprising that will scare these banks into ditching fossil fuels. Without help from investment banks, new coal mines and fracking projects can?t get off the ground. Here?s how we?ll do it: a.. Hire a squad of expert climate defenders and pair them up with a stunt team that will hound executives from these banks at public appearances b.. Purchase smart ad buys in the influential financial media outlets investors read every day to alert them to how their money is funding the destruction of our climate c.. Organize employees of targeted investment banks to oppose their companies? policies from the inside d.. File shareholder resolutions around the world to change the rules for investing in favor of the planet This plan is ambitious and bold, I know. But ambitious and bold is the only thing that will save life on Earth. And your support today can make this plan a reality. Will you chip in $1 today to kickstart our campaign to end the financing of the fossil fuel industry? You can be confident this plan can work. Why? Because SumOfUs members like you have played a decisive role in victories for our climate using these proven tactics before. Thanks to your grassroots power and timely donations, you helped delay the massive TransMountain pipeline in Canada and convinced insurance giant AIG to end its underwriting of a disastrous, climate-wrecking coal mine in Australia. Your support today will kickstart a campaign to strike at the root of our climate crisis: the dirty money that?s recklessly funding new fossil fuel power plants and coal mines around the world. SIGN AND TAKE ACTION NOW EU boss Paolo Gentiloni?s job is to make fair rules about tax. So why might he still own shares worth ?100,000 in tax-dodging corporation Amazon? [1] He has FAILED to publish his financial interests - and so has every other EU boss, or Commissioner as they?re officially called. That?s against the law. [2] It means we don?t know how they might be influenced. Only one person can make sure the Commissioners obey the law: the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. But so far no one is talking about this scandal -- so it?s easy for her to ignore. If we sign this petition and send thousands of tweets to von der Leyen now, we can show her this scandal is about to break, and she needs to demand her Commissioners obey the law. Can you sign and send a tweet? Sign the petition and send a tweet! These high-powered, highly-paid EU commissioners make decisions that affect all our lives. But if EU bosses stand to make money when a fossil fuel company opens a new coal mine, or when a tech company dodges tax, they just can?t be trusted. That?s why we need EU bosses to obey the law - and tell us which companies they invest in. They should have done it on 1 January. So they?re six weeks overdue. If we win, this is just our foot in the door. If EU bosses publish their financial interests, we?ll be able to expose their links to corporations and demand they work for people, not private profit. Can you tweet the EU Commission President to remind her that no one is above the law? Sign the petition and send a tweet! There?s so much power and potential for European leaders to steer us towards a greener, fairer Europe. But it won?t happen if we let them get away with conflicts of interest. The Spanish Commissioner Josep Borrell may still be a shareholder in pesticide giant Bayer-Monsanto. The Austrian Johannes Hahn, in charge of the EU budget - which could finance clean air and green energy projects in Europe - has declared shares in an Austrian oil company. This year?s Day of Action for Rivers theme focuses on Women, Water, and Climate Change. Last year, 100 women from 32 countries who are leading efforts to protect and defend rivers gathered at the first Women and Rivers Congress with this message: "In this time of climate crisis, floods and droughts, and growing water scarcity, protecting rivers and people is ever more urgent. We honor the women who have given their lives in the struggle to save our rivers for all who depend on them. We stand on the shoulders of women who have long been leaders in this movement. We join hands with local and indigenous communities who continue to face enormous peril in safeguarding their water and territories. We commit to continuing our fight to protect free-flowing rivers and the lands, forests and territories they sustain, to ensure women?s leadership in decision-making at all levels over freshwater resources, and to strengthen and build alliances and grow our movement ? for the future of ourselves as women, our families and communities, our rivers and our planet." Not if countless bees are killed to make it. California almond farms are a pesticide-soaked killing field for pollinators. But enough pressure on almond milk?s biggest players could force this bee-hostile industry to change its ways. Demand Blue Diamond, Danone and co. make the switch to bee-friendly almonds! Sign the petition Each winter, billions of honeybees are prematurely woken from hibernation, trucked into California and exposed to a ?soup? of bacteria, parasites and toxic pesticides -- so they can serve as pollinators for the fast-growing almond milk industry. They end up sick and exhausted, and many don?t make it back. Every year, up to 30 percent die. Our fragile bees deserve better -- and almond milk drinkers deserve a truly animal-friendly product. The good news is there are ways to grow almonds that don?t kill or harm bees. But Blue Diamond (maker of Almond Breeze), the number-one almond milk brand in the world, won't commit to using 100 percent bee-friendly almonds. Danone, maker of Silk and Alpro, says it's aiming for bee-friendly certification, but has yet to commit to a concrete timeline for a complete transition. We?ve got to use public pressure to get almond milk corporations in the bees' corner -- before it?s too late. Add your name to demand bee-friendly almond milk! Almond milk is the world?s most popular plant milk, outselling alternatives like soy, coconut and oat milk nearly five to one. And the vast majority of almonds that go into it come from pesticide-soaked monocultures in California?s Central Valley. Almond milk corporations are reaping billions in profits from consumers who care about the environment. They should be doing everything they can to make their product sustainable, not cutting corners with megafarms that take their bees for granted (on top of overtapping California's limited water supply). That?s why bee experts have explained exactly how almond farms can create a healthier habitat for bees. And if enough of us come together, we can make sure every almond milk maker gets on board. Blue Diamond, Danone and others are scrambling to protect their products? wholesome image after January?s Guardian expos? on bees and almond milk. Now is the perfect time to push for a bee-saving almond revolution! Our research suggests that brands are making some progress: Alpro sources almonds from bee-friendlier habitats in the Mediterranean where it's piloted conservation schemes, while Silk has worked to increase biodiversity on some California farms. But neither parent company Danone, nor competitor Blue Diamond (which lags further behind), have committed to a total supply chain revamp, let alone a concrete timeline for using only almonds from bee-friendly certified orchards. Demand these plant milk corps use only bee-friendly almonds. Bees go through so much to bring us the food we eat every day. It?s only right that we give something back. And again and again, SumOfUs members like you have come to the bees? aid when they needed you. You?ve pushed for bans on some of the deadliest bee-killing pesticides, and forced governments in Europe and Canada to pass laws protecting bees? health over Bayer and Syngenta?s profits. I know with your help, we can turn almond milk into a dairy alternative that's good for all animals -- bees included. I'm heading to a meeting with the CEO of Costco in just three days and your signature now will be critical to changing his mind and protecting these majestic forests. Sign the petition North America's appetite for luxury toilet paper is destroying Canada?s vast and majestic old-growth boreal forests, worsening climate change, endangering wildlife, and affecting hundreds of Indigenous communities across the country. According to a report from experts in the field, North American retail giant Costco?s own brand is one of the worst offenders. It's cutting down a million trees a year from the boreal forest -- just to be flushed away. Costco brings in over $150 billion USD a year and toilet paper is its biggest selling item. If we can get it to stop boreal forest sourcing, and using recycled content instead, it would save millions of trees. I just got back from Costco's annual shareholder meeting and the corporate executives were bragging about Costco's plans to expand further into Australia, the UK and Europe. I'm heading into a 1-1 meeting with the CEO in just three days and with your signatures in hand, I'll show him that the rest of the world isn't keen about Costco's destruction of forests. Join 58,000 other SumOfUs members calling on Costco to be responsible to the planet and stop cutting down the boreal forest for toilet paper. The Canadian boreal forest is the largest intact forest in the world, covering almost 60% of Canada and home to 600 Indigenous communities. The forest is a critical proponent in the fight against climate change, as it stores the carbon equivalent of nearly twice the world?s recoverable oil reserves in its soil. Over the last twenty years, 28 million acres of Canadian boreal forest -- that's roughly the size of England -- have been cut down just to make toilet paper. Toilet paper companies don?t have to use virgin pulp. Other corporations make 100% post-consumer recycled toilet paper and provide a great alternative. It?s time that Costco did the same. Join 58,000 other SumOfUs members calling on Costco to be responsible to the planet and stop cutting down the boreal forest for toilet paper. Together, with our friends at the NRDC and Stand.earth, SumOfUs is working to shift the entire tissue industry to protect our forests and mitigate climate change. SumOfUs has forced corporations to use environmentally friendly solutions before. When we found that out Starbucks hadn?t kept its promise to serve a 100% recyclable paper cup, almost 400,000 members just like yourself pressured the world?s largest corporate coffee chain to make good on their promise. And it worked! Starbucks committed to produce a fully recyclable and compostable cup within the next three years. With Costco, there?s no time to lose. It?s time for it to end its wasteful and destructive practices, and finally, put the people and the planet ahead of its own profits. STAND WITH THEM This is the story of Luisa and Arne and how they tried to watch the watchers, a secretive, well-funded EU body, Frontex, in charge of policing Europe?s borders and saving lives at sea. [1] Luisa and Arne asked for very simple information - what type of boats does Frontex have in the Mediterranean, an area where human lives are needlessly lost every year and where NGOs are no longer welcome? Frontex repeatedly refused to give this information, so Luisa and Arne took them to court. [2] Not only did they not get an answer, they lost. As a clear threat Frontex sent them a ?24,000 bill for legal fees to be paid in two days. European public institutions almost never send legal bills to citizens! We know that Frontex really hates bad publicity. Luisa and Arne have a plan to spread their story across Europe. It will be so much more powerful if this isn?t just their struggle, but all of ours. All it takes is your signature to stand with Luisa and Arne, and let Frontex know Europeans don?t respond well to bullies [3]. Sign now! If we let Frontex get away with this, the impact will go much further than Luisa and Arne. They are the first to take Frontex to court as individuals -- an act in itself very important. If we let Frontex set the precedent that individuals cannot ask them for information without being bullied and ending up in debt with tens of thousands of euros in legal fees, they will continue to work in clouds of secrecy. When individuals like you and I take EU institutions to court, they use their own legal team and, more importantly, they will almost never ask the individual to cover legal fees, as a democratic gesture. But here, when Luisa and Arne lost the case (due to ?security? reasons cited) [4] Frontex not only asked them to cover their legal fees, but those fees were for a big-shot Brussels based lawyer rather than the legal team they already have. Not only that, but Frontex has a budget of ?1 billion. ?24,000 is pocket change for them. So all of this raises the question -- what does Frontex have to hide? Sign now and let?s find out. Sign now! Japan?s largest trading company is making a last ditch effort to secure finance for a big, dirty new coal plant called Vung Ang 2. The site Mitsubishi has chosen is very same location as the infamous Formosa Steel Plant disaster in 2016, which wiped out the local fishing industry and poisoned 200km of pristine coastline with cyanide. The local community has taken on powerful companies like Mitsubishi before and right now the company is keenly away of the controversy this project is causing. The future of the project hangs on negotiations over the next two months. If we create enough outcry, we can force Mitsubishi to scrap this dirty coal plant for good.
