These trees can live thousands of years; the California
wildfires wiped them out in minutes. Demand protections now!

The jaw-dropping trees of California — the giant sequoias,
ancient redwoods, and dancing Joshua trees — are not long for this world.
Sequoias usually only die at a rate of one or two per year, with most living
thousands of years. Yet because climate change is fueling bigger, hotter
fires, these trees are suddenly more vulnerable than ever before. Meanwhile,
Joshua trees were already so threatened by climate change, they've been
granted temporary endangered status — and during 2020's West coast inferno,
they burned by the millions. If climate change continues the way it
currently is, only 0.02% of these delicate trees' natural habitat will still
be suitable for them in the future. So either take action, or say "good-bye"
to your selfie posts now.
Even the oldest redwoods, which show survival-scars from
hundreds of past fires, are also at risk as humans continue to bulldoze them
for lumber and "development." In the absence of government help, non-profit
conservation organizations have been scrambling to buy and protect as many
redwood groves as they can afford. But this shouldn't be the job of
individual conservationists. We need proper government-sponsored forest
management immediately in order to stop development, lumbering, and climate
change from gobbling up such precious, ancient trees! We must not let these
legendary, epic forests die. Sign the petition and demand that the
California Fish and Game Commission immediately list sequoias, Joshua trees,
and redwoods as protected under California's Endangered Species Act!
Thank you for all that you do,
Miranda B.

P.S. These trees are vital to our nation's natural history
and are cornerstones of their own specialized ecosystems. Tell California to
add sequoias, Joshua trees, and redwoods to their state Endangered Species
Act!
