Tigray siege raises humanitarian concerns from UN
Ethiopia's declaration that it has captured the Tigray capital of Mekele does not indicate that conflict in the region is over, and urgent support is needed for around 96,000 Eritrean refugees living in Tigray as well as over 44,000 refugees that have been driven into Sudan by the violence, United Nations officials say. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees is urging all parties to facilitate immediate humanitarian access to the region.Full Story: The Associated Press (11/29), Arab News (Saudi Arabia)/Agence France-Presse (11/28), Reuters (11/27), The Associated Press (11/30)

Scientist's killing drives Iran to halt IAEA cooperation
Lawmakers in Iran voted unanimously on Sunday to end cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency following the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, one of the country's top nuclear scientists. Iranian officials have suggested that responsibility for the killing lies with Israel and hinted at retaliatory measures, while United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned against any actions that would escalate tensions in the region.Full Story: NHK World (Japan) (11/29), The Guardian (London) (11/29), Reuters (11/27)

WHO warns of pandemic backslide in malaria fight

FAO: Sustainable water use key to averting hunger crisis
Failure to address climate change and shortages of fresh water could leave billions of people facing chronic hunger, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization warns. "We must take very seriously both water scarcity (the imbalance between supply and demand for freshwater resources) and water shortages (reflected in inadequate rainfall patterns) for they are now the reality we all live with," says FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.Full Story: The Guardian (London) (11/26)
