What is it?
a.. Earlier this week, German doctors
confirmed that Alexey Navalny was poisoned by a mixture of nerve agents,
pesticides, and medical drugs. Navalny collapsed on a flight from Tomsk in
Siberia to Moscow last week and was airlifted to Berlin where he remains in
a coma.
b.. The Russian government has already ruled
out any investigation into Navalny’s poisoning and was dismissed any
connections between Putin and the poisoning of many of his critics and
political opponents.
Why is it important?
a.. Navalny is largely viewed as Putin’s
most significant and prominent opposition. His poisoning is a blatant act of
aggression and demonstrates Putin’s belief that his word is law in Russia.
b.. Navalny is expected to recover but the
long-term effects of the poison are unknown. Vladamir Kara Murza, another
Putin critic has been poisoned twice – read his account HERE.
What can you do?
a.. Read more about Russia’s history of
poisoning its enemies.
b.. Check out the Free Russia Foundation for
more info.
