                       Dramatic humanitarian crisis in the central Sahel

                              20 million people live in areas affected by 
conflict between armed groups in the Sahel region– Burkina Faso, Mali and 
Niger– bringing the total number of people displaced in the three countries 
to 860,000. The World Food Programme (WFP) reports that 2.4 million people 
need food aid in the central Sahel, a figure that could increase. More than 
270,000 live as refugees in the three countries  - 261,000 in Burkina Faso, 
187,140 in Mali and 187,360 in Niger. The WFP urgently needs $150 million 
for operations under existing programmes in the three countries.

                       Cambodian Leader Willing to Lose EU Trade Privileges
                              The Associated Press, Nov. 21, 2019 - 
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Thursday that it is more important 
for his country to maintain its independence and sovereignty than to retain 
special trading privileges that the European Union has threatened to 
withdraw.
                              Hun Sen told government officials that even 
with the loss of the trade privileges, Cambodia would be able to export its 
products to the EU as before. It would earn lower profits, but the EU would 
no longer be able to threaten or put any conditions on Cambodia, he said.

                       Chinese Companies Are Worse at Business Than You 
Think
                              Foreign Policy, Nov.21, 2019- Forest City, a 
luxury real estate development that aims to house 700,0000 residents in a 
futuristic green utopia across the border from Singapore, is a case study in 
how easily Chinese investment projects that are entirely private can become 
boondoggles due to the interference of Chinese politics and poor Chinese

                       Children deprived of freedom in the world

                              According to the Report of the U.N Global 
Study on Children Deprived of Liberty which is commissioned only every 10 
years, more than 5.4 million children are detained around the world. It 
should be noted the relationship with “aggressive” counter-terrorism 
measures for the spike in youngsters held for alleged links with armed 
conflict or national security concerns based on their social media posts. 
The Report takes into account street children, those with disabilities and 
others who travel with asylum seekers and migrant families. At least 410,000 
children are held every year in prisons and pre-trial detention facilities, 
where violence is “endemic”. At least 330,000 children in 80 countries are 
held in immigration detention yearly, while 670,000 children have been 
placed in institutions “that meet the legal definition of deprivation of 
liberty”.

what is going on can make all the difference, cut-offs to the Internet are 
witnessed more regularly around the world as authorities attempt to crack 
down on protesters’ ability to organize within the country and to gain
