We are pleased to invite your organization to sign a joint statement of 
civil society organizations, entitled ?The False Promises of Hydropower: 
How dams fail to deliver the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Sustainable 
Development Goals?  (attached)

This statement will be launched during a world congress of large corporate 
actors in the dam industry, convened in Paris during May 14-16th by the 
International Hydropower Association, under the slogan ?Delivering the Paris 
Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The launching of the joint statement will be a part of actions organized by 
civil society organizations in Paris to question renewed attempts by the 
global dam industry to greenwash destructive dams, with an eye towards 
capturing financial incentives that should promote real solutions for 
addressing the climate crisis and promoting sustainable development.



These parallel activities will include the organization of a conference on 
May 13th  in Paris to stimulate  an open public debate on hydroelectric 
dams, the climate crisis and sustainable development, to be followed by a 
street protest on the opening day of the dam industry?s global congress, 
when the petition will be publically delivered.



During our activities in Paris, special attention will be given to ensuring 
that voices of indigenous peoples and other movements of dam-affected 
peoples - normally excluded from decision-making circles and large events 
such as the World Hydropower Congress ? will be effectively heard.

                       An assessment published by United Nations food security assessment in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (also known as North Korea) has found that following the worst harvest in 10 years, due to dry spells, heatwaves and flooding, about 10.1 million people suffer from severe food shortages, meaning they do not have enough food until the next harvest. The assessment, which is based on UN Food and Agriculture Organization and World Food Programme missions to the country last month and in November 2018, concluded that the reduced harvest, coupled with increased post-harvest losses, has led to an uncovered food deficit of 1.36 million metric tons after considering the commercial import capacity of the country.

                       In April, the Council of Europe published the twelfth annual report on the supervision of the execution of judgments and the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights 2018. In total, in 2018, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was able to close 2,705 cases and the total number of cases pending before the Committee is currently its lowest since 2006 and the total number of cases pending before the Committee was 6,151 on 31 December compared to 7,500 cases pending at the end of 2017. One of the principle reasons for the high number of closures was the Committee?s practice, in relation to complex and systemic problems, of closing repetitive cases in which all the possible individual measures needed to provide redress to the applicant have been taken, while continuing to supervise the general measures required to remedy the underlying problem through the optic of a few representative leading cases.

Climate change means a more dangerous world for our children. But like the far-right in Germany, many right-wing parties in Europe see climate protection as "unnecessary hype." [2]

Right-wing parties are on track to gain many more seats in the coming election ? if they do they could block climate protections and shift us towards runaway climate crisis.

But if we take to the streets, we can stop their politics of climate change denial by rallying people to vote.

The plan is to get huge numbers of people to gather on 19 May in Germany, Denmark, Italy and six other countries. [3] We?ve made a brilliant, inspiring video to get people on the streets ? but we need to raise money to make sure people see it.

It costs about 50 euros to put the video in 20,000 people?s social media feeds. Vladimir, can you chip in to spread the video online?

Right-wing parties argue that individual countries should go it alone. Close borders, reintroduce D-Mark and bury our heads in the sand. But huge challenges like climate change don?t respect borders. We can only stop the climate crisis with international cooperation.

As WeMove, we show what?s possible when people work together across borders. We?ll coordinate protests in Genoa, Vienna, Budapest and 16 other European cities. We want tens of thousands of people to take to the streets on Sunday 19 May ? but it will only work if we reach huge numbers of people in the next few days.

Social media and internet are the means to mobilise people fast. But it?s not free. To spread the word, we have to advertise... in nine countries and six languages!

Do you carry your shopping home in a reusable bag? Close the tap while you 
brush your teeth? Well done! But saving the planet will require a more 
systemic approach.

A new UN-sponsored report (1,500 pages in full ? consider the environment 
before printing!) details how the accelerating decline of biodiversity is 
threatening humanity's very survival.

It's not the first report of its kind, and despite their increasingly 
alarmist tones, unlikely to be the last.

What to do?

Between the relative futility of individual do-goodery and the seemingly 
unstoppable forces degrading earth's ecosystems lies a whole world of 
despair, paralysis, and tuned-out apathy.

But if those forces seem unstoppable, it's perhaps because they appear to be 
nameless and faceless. As this map points out, they aren't. The harm that's 
being done to the planet can be pinpointed, to a very specific list of 
companies. And those companies have CEOs that can be named and shamed.


The west vs. the rest

This map shows the 100 companies responsible for the biggest share of the 
world's greenhouse gas emissions, and their CEOs. Countries are inflated to 
represent their share of CO2 emissions since the beginning of 
industrialisation.

If we want to make a serious dent in the amount of CO2 and other greenhouse 
gases we're emitting, this map suggests, it's these companies ? and more 
specifically, these CEOs ? we need to hold to account. Naming and shaming 
them is a first step.

The basis for this map is the Carbon Majors report from 2017 by CDP 
(formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), listing the top 100 fossil fuel 
producers in the world, responsible for 71 percent of all greenhouse gas 
emissions since 1988.

In fact, more than 50 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions since 1988 can 
be traced to just the top 25 entities on that list.

Those are, in descending order: China (state coal production), Aramco, 
Gazprom, National Iranian Oil, ExxonMobil, Coal India, Pemex, Russia (state 
coal production), Shell, China National Petroleum, BP, Chevron, PDVSA, Abu 
Dhabi National Oil, Poland Coal, Peabody Energy, Sonatrach, Kuwait 
Petroleum, Total, BHP Billiton, ConocoPhilips, Petrobras, Lukoil, RioTinto, 
Nigerian National Petroleum.

If fossil-fuel extraction over the next quarter century continues at the 
same rate as the previous 25 years, the Carbon Majors report claims we're on 
course for a 4?C rise in average temperatures by the end of this century ? 
accelerating the loss of biodiversity and the rise of food insecurity, to 
name but two consequences.

Granted, even oil companies are aware that the wind is blowing from a 
different direction now and have initiated programmes to produce energy in a 
more sustainable way. But in many cases, the discrepancy between the size of 
those programmes and the attention they are given in corporate PR makes them 
little more than window dressing.

This overview refocuses the attention on the main issue ? the emission of 
CO2 and other greenhouse gases. And by naming each company's CEO, the issue 
is personalized.

That personalization should come with a few caveats.

First, these corporations thrive only because consumers buy their product ? 
although it must be said that demand for energy is fairly inelastic: most 
people can't do without fuel to get from A to B, or to heat their homes.

Second, in all fairness: the true captains of industry are not the CEOs, but 
the majority shareholders. It's those shareholders' priorities ? profit only 
or planet also ? that drive corporate decision-making.

Those shareholders include large institutional investors, but also national 
governments. Up to 20 percent of investment in hydrocarbon extraction is 
done by public funding ? i.e. us.

On the other hand, we're running into the same problem mentioned above 
again. Big institutions, even if they include you and me, are 
nameless/faceless. These CEOs are picked to run and represent their 
companies. Perhaps they should get used to a new job: being the lightning 
rod for our growing concern about global warming.

The Decolonial Atlas, which published this map, quotes U.S. folk artist and 
labor organizer Utah Phillips: "The earth is not dying, it is being killed, 
and those who are killing it have names and addresses."


On that list is your name and address, and mine; because we could all do a 
lot more. But not nearly as much as these 100 people. Let this map be an 
invitation to acquaint ourselves with their intentions, good or otherwise.

(2017)[2] note that environmental defenders are being murdered at record 
numbers globally, with almost four defenders defending their customs, 
territories, human rights, and environmental health killed per week. John 
Knox, UN special rapporteur on human rights and the environment, noted that 
?[t]here is now an overwhelming incentive to wreck the environment for 
economic reasons. The people most at risk are people who are already 
marginalised and excluded from politics and judicial redress, and are 
dependent on the environment ? Everywhere in the world, defenders are facing 
threats. There is an epidemic now, a culture of impunity, a sense that 
anyone can kill environmental defenders without repercussions, eliminate 
anyone who stands in the way. It [comes from] mining, agribusiness, illegal 
logging and dam building.?[3]

                 We seek contributions from academic scholars, activists, 
communities, and artists dealing with the complex struggles of Indigenous 
groups and environmental defenders. The multi-lingual (English, French, 
Spanish) issue will consist of an interdisciplinary mix of peer-reviewed, 
academic articles, as well as Indigenous artwork and poetry and five 
two-minute podcasts relaying the stories of Indigenous environmental 
defenders worldwide. Collaborative contributions are welcome. We hope the

amenazas. Ahora hay una epidemia, una cultura de impunidad, una sensaci?n de 
que cualquiera puede matar a los defensores del medio ambiente sin 
repercusiones, eliminar a cualquiera que se interponga en el camino. Procede 
de la miner?a, la agroindustria, la tala ilegal y la construcci?n de 
presas"[3].

            Buscamos contribuciones de acad?micos, activistas, comunidades y 
artistas que se ocupan de las complejas luchas de grupos ind?genas y

Youth4Nature is a youth-led, international initiative that is empowering 
young people around the world to mobilize for natural climate solutions and 
hold our political leaders to account on both the climate and ecological 
crises.



To celebrate their recent launch, Youth4Nature is hosting an online webinar

What is natural climate solutions?


Also known as nature-based solutions, are proven ways of mitigating climate 
change through conservation, restoration, and improved management in 
forests, wetlands, and grasslands. According to the ground-breaking study 
led by the Nature Conservancy, natural climate solutions have the potential 
to provide 37% of cost-effective CO2 mitigation needed through 2030 for 
greater than a two-third chance of keeping warming below 2Co. The majority 
of these nature-based solutions can also offer a suite of additional 
benefits that will aid in climate adaptation, including flood buffering, 
improving soil health and biodiversity habitat, and enhancing climate 
resilience. However, the role that nature can play in climate action is not 
recognized in discussion or in funding.

                       President Hassan Rouhani declared on Wednesday that 
his country would no longer abide by some of its commitments in the nuclear 
committment JCPoA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), exactly one year 
after Trump's announcement of termination of US participation in the 
agreement and after the introduction of US sanctions that are putting a 
strain on the Iranian economy. He added that if any conclusion is not 
reached, Iran will resume enriching uranium and will not follow obligations 
under the JCPOA according to which its uranium enrichment should not exceed 
the purity level of 3.67 percent. In a press release, US Secretary of State 
Michael R. Pompeo has reiterated the US commitment to continue to impose 
?maximum pressure on the regime until it abandons its destabilizing 
ambitions?.

                              Jointly statement by High Representative of 
the European Union Federica Mogherini and the Foreign Ministers of France, 
Germany and the United Kingdom expressed its concern and reiterated its 
commitment to the full implementation of the JCPoA.











                       Total world military expenditure rose to $1822 
billion in 2018, representing an increase of 2.6 per cent from 2017, 
according to new data from the Stockholm International Peace Research 
Institute (SIPRI). The five biggest spenders in 2018 were the United States, 
China, Saudi Arabia, India and France, which together accounted for 60 per 
cent of global military spending.

                  The International Solar Energy Society invites you to join 
this month's webinar in which we welcome Christian Breyer, Professor for 
Solar Economy at LUT University, Finland and Hans-Josef Fell, President of 
the Energy Watch Group for a webinar on their latest joint publication, the 
study on Global Energy Systems based on 100% Renewable Energy.

                  The study, published this April, is the first of its kind 
to outline a 1.5?C scenario with a cost-effective, cross-sectoral, 
technology-rich global 100% renewable energy system that does not build on 
negative CO2 emission technologies. The scientific modelling study simulates 
a total global energy transition in the electricity, heat, transport and 
desalination sectors by 2050. It is based on four and a half years of 
research and analysis of data collection, as well as technical and financial 
modelling by 14 scientists. The study proves that the transition to 100% 
renewable energy is economically competitive with the current fossil and 
nuclear-based system, and could reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the 
energy system to zero even before 2050.

                  ISES Vice President Eicke Weber will moderate the webinar 
and we are especially looking forward to the Q/A section for the audience to 
share their questions on this important study.

We?re about to pour out onto the streets, dancing, singing, marching, linking hands, to stand up for hope. To stand up in direct opposition to the politics of hate and division being drummed up by the extreme right in these last few weeks, ahead of the EU elections. 

If the news reports are right, they?re already reaching millions of voters with their hateful messages. But we know the extreme right doesn?t reflect the majority of Europeans. That?s why on 19th May, we will come together in 42 cities to celebrate a future Europe of hope. A Europe that puts people and planet before profits. A Europe of change.

Before this important day, we?re sending out a short video to make sure everyone sees our messages of hope and knows about the events on the 19th. Watch this video and share with your friends and family now. The more of us that know about the events, the stronger we are in fighting back against the dark, corrosive politics of fascism:

  Dear all,

  i would like to ask the your organizations/movements to sign the attached call (also pasted further down) against the Ilisu Dam in Turkish-Kurdistan. Recently the Turkish government has announced to start with the filling of the dam reservoir on June 10, 2019. If the filling starts in June, the 12.000 years old and famous town Hasankeyf would be flooded by raising water levels in October 2019.
  Despite this we have not lost our hope and would like to go to the international publicas much as possible. For that we want to have as many as organizations supporting us.

  It?s not too late to save Hasankeyf and Tigris River!
  No filling of the Ilisu Dam Reservoir!


  For 12.000 years, Hasankeyf in the Southeast of Turkey has been a site of uninterrupted human settlement. With the labour of dozen of cultures this outstanding universal site has been created on the banks of the Tigris River and adjacent small valleys and rocks. The recent excavations show that in Hasankeyf lies on top of a huge uncovered cultural heritage. Independent researchers state that Hasankeyf and the surrounding Tigris Valley are as important historically as Ephesus, Troy and Capaddoccia and fulfill 9 out of the 10 UNESCO criteria for a World Heritage Site. It is assumed that Hasankeyf is the twin of G?beklitepe, a sanctuary site 225 km to the west with a similar age which led to globally new conclusions on first human settling in history.

  While the Turkish government achieved the inclusion of G?beklitepe in UNESCO?s World Heritage List, Hasankeyf and the surrounding Tigris Valley is planned to be flooded by the Ilisu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project, which is almost constructed. In recent statements the Turkish government announced to start with the filling of the Ilisu dam reservoir on June 10, 2019. Officials add that in October 2019 Hasankeyf town would be affected by the raising water level.

  The Ilisu Project was and is a completely wrong and destructive investment. That is why since the beginning the project is strongly opposed not only at the local level in Turkey, but also in Iraq-Syria and globally. Contrary to official claims, the dam would have no socio-economic or any other benefit for the majority of society in the affected region and up to 80.000 people would loose their livelihoods. Apart from Hasankeyf an important part of the not yet excavated cultural heritage in Upper Mesopotamia along the Tigris River would be flooded. The biodiversity of the Tigris River ecosystem ? still mainly natural ? would be degraded significantly. The Ilisu Project would also gravely affect the downstream stretches of the Tigris, seriously jeopardizing the water supply of major Iraqi towns and Iraqi agriculture would be put under serious risk. In particular the UNESCO site of Mesopotamian Marshes in South Iraq would be threatened with drying out due to reduced downstream flows.

  In the last few years, the government?s program of so called ?monument relocation and consolidation of rocks" has seriously damaged the cultural heritage in Hasankeyf. But still there is so much cultural heritage to rescue. 

  Despite the project nearing completion, we believe strongly that the cancellation of the Ilisu project would stimulate a process from which the broader local population, Turkey and Iraq would benefit directly, economically as well as socially and culturally. 

  We call upon on the Turkish government not to start the filling by the Ilisu Dam, either in June or later. Instead a new broad, participative and transparent discussion with all representatives of the local population on the future of the affected five provinces should be started. Based on the common outcomes, policies on the future of the Tigris Valley and the surrounding region should be implemented. Another condition should be the achievement of a mutual agreement with Iraq and Syria according to international law which should guarantee sufficient water flows until the Mesopotamian Marshes.

Have you seen Greta, the Swedish 16-year-old that's inspired a youthful revolution on climate change all across Europe? Greta, alongside hundreds of thousands of Europeans of all ages, knows that the worst thing we can do right now is to close our eyes and wish it all went away. She knows that we have maximum 10-12 years before climate change leads to irreparable damage, and that the course our leaders take over the next five years will determine the course of our future.

But Greta and the other school-strikers across Europe can?t vote yet, and the European election is right around the corner. That?s why we need to act, and that means getting people out to vote 23-26 May. We need to vote for a different kind of politics in Europe: to champion the fight against climate change, for women?s rights, for diversity, solidarity, for the original values of the EU.

Belgium (pts/14.05.2019/08:30) A study by the University of Plymouth (UK) has raised concerns over the viability of biodegradable plastics. As the world market leader in certification of biodegradable plastics, T?V AUSTRIA has reviewed said paper to clarify its findings and prevent misconceptions about biodegradability in general. 
Executive Summary 

T?V AUSTRIA stresses that none of the bags evaluated by the Plymouth study have been evaluated or certified by an independent third party. Nor do these bags bear a mark of conformity, such as OK compost or OK biodegradable.

The results of the Plymouth study are in line with expectations. Most of the bags are almost intact after three years. Either the claims made by the manufacturers are false or the samples have been exposed to an environment they were not designed for.

Unlike the study itself, media reviewing the study are far less nuanced to the point of instilling mistrust in genuinely biodegradable products.

The Plymouth study?s conclusions are in line with the T?V AUSTRIA approach: 
- only an assessment sanctioned by a certificate issued by a competent and independent certification body guarantees the biodegradability / compostability of a product;
- controlled use of appropriate logos allows consumers to properly sort products at end of life.

The University of Plymouth study 

Five types of carrier bags were tested. One was made of polyethylene (PE), one was referred to as "biodegradable", another as "compostable", while the last two were made from oxo-fragmentable material. Oxo-fragmentable material is by its very definition not biodegradable and only erroneously described as such.

Following an exposure of these bags to different environments (soil, sea water and air) for a period of 3 years, the University of Plymouth analysed their mechanical characteristics, in particular tensile strength.

This method determines the degradation of the bags, even if that degradation is not due to bio organisms as it is in case of biodegradation. The title of the study is therefore perfectly correct: "Environmental Deterioration of Biodegradable, Oxo-biodegradable, Compostable, and Conventional Plastic Carrier Bags in the Sea, Soil, and Open-Air Over a 3 Year Period "

Superficial media reports 

The results the study provides are in line with expectations: most of the bags are almost intact after three years, either because the claims made by the manufacturers are false, or the bags have been exposed to an environment they were not designed for.

However, it is unfortunate that the articles feature headlines that are less nuanced than the study itself. The superficial discussion of a complex and important matter creates confusion to the point of instilling distrust in genuinely biodegradable products.

It should be noted that none of these bags have been evaluated or certified by an independent third party, nor do they bear a mark of conformity (such as OK compost, OK biodegradable or other).

All our certification schemes are developed for a specific environment and the associated logo clearly mentions this environment to help the consumer in his sorting process.

The "compostable" bag tested during the study shows a marking referring to the European standard EN 13432, which is of no help for citizens.

For example, our OK compost HOME logo, which is only allowed on certified bags, clearly indicates that the bags are certified and intended for home composting.

Plymouth study in line with T?V AUSTRIA approach 

The conclusions the Plymouth study arrives at are perfectly in line with the T?V AUSTRIA approach: 
- only an assessment sanctioned by a certificate issued by a competent and independent certification body guarantees the biodegradability / compostability of a product;
- controlled use of appropriate logos allows consumers to properly sort products at end of life.

These are the two missions that we have been pursuing for almost 25 years via our OK compost and OK biodegradable conformity marks, adapted for different environments (industrial or domestic compost, biodegradation in soil, in water or at sea) and combined with permanent market monitoring.

T?V AUSTRIA underlines that biodegradability must never be an excuse for littering. Biodegradability is an important subject matter that requires careful and responsible presentation to be implemented for the intended benefit of our environment.

In line with our global push for deep and rapid decarbonisation to meet the 
1.5 C challenge set by the ratified Paris Agreement, Dr Sven Teske from 
University of Technology in Sydney (UTS) will give us an overview on the 
study he and colleagues provided recently on the occasion of the World 
Economic Forum, January 2019 in Davos, on meeting a 100% renewable energy 
target by 2050, the radical energy efficiency improvements, necessary 
investments into renewable gases, storage and grids in line with a 1.5 C 
carbon budget by 2050 with the One Earth Climate Model.  And the 500 pages 
plus study published by Springer is open access. The study was developed by 
about 20 scientists and took about 2 years. For my personal feeling, this is 
best on the market.

                              41st Congress of the Nonviolent Radical Party, 
Transnational and Transparty (NRPTT) will be held in Rome from 5 to 7 July 
2019 at Auditorium Antonianum (viale Manzoni 1) beginning on Friday 5th July 
at 11 am.













                       Rita Bernardini and Maurizio Bolognetti have 
suspended their hunger strikes, in relation to the renewal of the agreement 
with Radio Radicale, respectively after 37 and 78 days while Roberto 
Giachetti, PD deputy, started A thirst strike at midnight on Thursday 16 May 
and Roberto Deriu, councilor of the Sardinia Region, started A thirst strike 
at midnight on Saturday 18 May for the duration of three days.



                              About 200 citizens participate in the 
non-violent initiative with a few days of hunger strike for the life of 
Radio Radicale.

                       On Tuesday, Alabama legislators passed a bill banning 
abortions with very limited exceptions: "to avoid a serious health risk to 
the unborn child's mother," if the "unborn child has a lethal anomaly" and 
if the woman has an ectopic pregnancy.
                              This is the most restrictive abortion 
legislation in the country, but the state is not alone in trying to put 
limits on the procedure.
                              Aside from Alabama, multiple states have 
passed so-called "heartbeat" bills that ban abortions after a fetal 
heartbeat can be detected: Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Georgia, Arkansas, 
Utah, Lowa, and the last bill that prohibits abortion passed in Missouri on 
friday.

                       United States President Donald Trump signed an 
executive order on Wednesday on Securing the Information and Communications 
Technology and Services Supply Chain, which stops US companies from using 
telecommunications equipment made by technology firms that pose a national 
security risk. The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. 
Department of Commerce announced that it will be adding Huawei and its 
affiliates to the so-called Entity List. China's Ministry of Commerce 
spokesman Gao Feng told reporters in Beijing: "China has always stressed 
that the concept of national security should not be abused. It should not be 
used as a tool to push forward trade protectionism".

This past Sunday, we blew past our own expectations! Hundreds of thousands of people ? from Leipzig to Stockholm to Bucharest ? marched (and danced!) to say no to hate and division, and to inspire people to vote for hope in the EU election this week. 

For those of you who were able to join us, you know no image could truly capture the powerful and diverse beauty of Sunday?s events. But here?s a video to give you a glimpse! Once you?ve watched it, share it on social media and remind your family and friends that the EU election starts in just a few days. ?In this election, you vote for the future living conditions of humankind.? ? Greta Thunberg [1]

Polls open for voting in some countries tomorrow, and there?s so much on the line. This is not your typical election. We need to listen to scientists and millions of children who are taking part in climate marches across Europe. Our children will live in an increasingly dangerous world with more floods, forest fires, droughts and rising sea levels [2], if we don?t vote for candidates who want to protect our planet! 

Our children can?t vote, so it?s up to us to listen and save our planet for younger generations. We need to turn up, turn out, and be counted in this crucial vote this week. 

If we stay at home instead of going to the polls, right-wing parties in Europe who deny climate change is real have a chance to win in the European election. News is breaking today that millions of EU voters are hearing from far-right fake news accounts on Facebook, so we need to step up our outreach and make sure our families and friends are planning to vote.

Here?s what we can do to stop this: 

  a.. Voting for this EU election is happening tomorrow through Sunday, depending on your country. Make sure you know where to go to vote and when, and what you?ll need to cast your ballot. 
  b.. Have a look to see which parties and candidates are on the ballot.  
  c.. Tell people about it. Invite friends, family and loved ones to join you. 
And once you?ve voted? Share photos on Facebook, WhatsApp or wherever you prefer. Every little bit helps remind friends, family and loved ones of the huge opportunity they have to fight for our planet. 

There?s so much on the line. We don?t know what the results will be, and nothing is for sure ? but I know that WeMove members have done everything they can to make sure that those who deny climate change aren?t swept to power. Thanks for being a part of that.

                        We learned today that a three-judge panel of the Kentucky Court of Appeals ruled that Bevin must release the names of shareholders/investors in the shady Braidy Industries aluminum mill.

                        As we you know, Gov. Bevin invested $15 million of Kentucky taxpayer money in the Braidy Industries mill, which is owned by Bevin pal Craig Bouchard. If that weren't shady enough, Russian aluminum company Rusal, largely owned by Russian oligarch and Putin crony Oleg Deripaska (who's under sanctions by the U.S. government), is putting $200 million into the Braidy Industries mill and taking a 40% ownership stake in the mill. You may recall that Oleg Deripaska is the same Russian oligarch who paid $10 million a year to former Trump campaign chairman and convicted felon Paul Manafort. 

                        Do you agree that Bevin must release the names of other investors in Braidy Industries now?

people will march again to ask for our help. Tell them you?ll vote for a

Around 1.4 million young people in 123 countries skipped school on Friday 15 
March to alert the world that their future is threatened by the climate 
crisis. ?We didn?t have a choice,? said the Swedish strike leader Greta 
Thunberg. [1]

Today, days before most of us vote in the EU election, they?ll be repeating 
the deed. Sunday 26 May is the day most Europeans will vote to elect the 
people who should represent us and defend our interests over the next 5 
years in a massively important institution: the European Parliament.

The marching outcry of the youth rebellion is to get us, adults, to take 
action before their future is condemned forever. They march - but many of 
them cannot vote on Sunday. Let?s tell them we are with them. What?s more, 
let?s act in solidarity: vote for a Parliament that makes fighting the 
climate crisis an absolute priority.

How will the marching youth know you are committed to voting so as to

counted to save our planet!

                              41st Congress of the Nonviolent Radical Party, 
Transnational and Transparty (NRPTT) will be held in Rome from 5 to 7 July 
2019 at Auditorium Antonianum (viale Manzoni 1) beginning on Friday 5th July 
at 11 am.













                       Radio Radicale. On Tuesday 21st May the amendments to 
the bill?DDL Crescita? requesting to extend the duration of the agreement by 
six months were declared inadmissible. Unanimity was needed to proceed, but 
the 5 Star Movement remained opposed, while all the other groups agreed. 
Roberto Giachetti, PD deputy, suspended the thirst strike for the life of 
Radio Radicale after 5 days and he is continuing the nonviolent initiative 
with the hunger strike. Maurizio Bolognetti, who had suspended the hunger 
strike after 78 days on May 16, resumed the non-violent initiative on May 
24, alternating a day of fasting and a day of hunger strike. Roberto Deriu, 
councilor of the Sardinia Region, concluded his strike that began at 
midnight on Saturday 18 May after three days.



                              About 200 citizens are participating in the 
non-violent initiative with a few days of hunger strike for the life of 
Radio Radicale.

                       The Council of Europe has published the annual report 
SPACE II survey. The survey shows the number of persons in Europe subject to 
community sanctions and measures (CSM) ? usually known as alternatives to 
imprisonment - under the supervision of probation agencies is increasing. On 
31 January 2018 there were 1,810,357 people in Europe under the supervision 
of the 41 probation agencies participating in the survey, which represents 
an overall probation population rate of 169 probationers per 100,000 
inhabitants. Comparing the 34 probation agencies that provided this data 
both for 2016 and 2018, the probation population increased from 1,540,578 to 
1,723,652.

Algorithms of RepressionReverse Engineering a Xinjiang Police Mass 
Surveillance App? which ?provides a detailed description and analysis of a 
mobile app that police and other officials use to communicate with the 
Integrated Joint Operations Platform (IJOP), one of the main systems Chinese 
authorities use for mass surveillance in Xinjiang?. Analysis of the IJOP app 
reveals that authorities are collecting massive amounts of personal 
information and shows Xinjiang authorities consider many forms of lawful, 
everyday, non-violent behavior?such as ?not socializing with neighbors, 
often avoiding using the front door??as suspicious.

                       The worst humanitarian crisis in the world is 
underway in Yemen, currently around 12 million people - almost 40% of the 
population - are on the verge of starvation. David Beasley, head of the 
World Food Program (WFP), said the agency's efforts to reach people in need 
were repeatedly blocked. The World Food Program has reported that without 
full access and "freedom to decide? who gets this vital assistence in Houthi 
controlled areas, it could be forced to take the hard decision of 
implementing a phased suspension of its operations.

denied access to the hungry, aid convoys have been blocked, and local 
authorities have
                              interfered with food distribution, and ? most 
importantly, there have been repeated obstacles placed in the way of our

Hi,

Today, we wake up with hope. Not only because of the results of the EU 
election, known last night. But because of all of us who voted, took to the 
streets, and rallied others online. You are amazing. And together we will 
overcome the most difficult challenges of our time: our climate emergency, 
our democracy and rule of law, a broken asylum system, and so many others.

I want to acknowledge the power of what we just did together at this EU 
election. We came out in droves - voter turnout was the highest for a 
European Union election in 20 years. We said no to hate, and yes to change - 
and that?s what we got! The far-right haters did not get the meteoric rise 
they were expecting. And many new politicians will enter parliament who 
could take action on the big existential questions like fighting climate 
change and inequality - especially if we hold them to account! That's the 
kind of change we want, not Salvini?s divisive version of it.

This was our first EU election together. WeMove did not even exist five 
years ago when the last EU election took place. And I am proud of what we?ve 
done. By taking action online and offline, we made the movement visible 
throughout Europe. We showed Europe that is not only the far-right that can 
make noise. While they can rally their bases with hate, we rallied our 
friends and families with hope.

There is so much to be inspired by from this election. The surge in youth 
voting, the hundreds of thousands who joined us on the streets to kick off 
election week, the multitudes more who supported the climate strikes last 
Friday, and every single one of you who rallied someone else to vote.

Together, we collected pledges to vote from tens of thousands of Europeans, 
encouraged our friends and families to vote, and coordinated massive 
elections events across the EU just over a week ago. Even in the face of 
face of far-right hate and disinformation, 200,000 of us came out to say ?no 
to hate, yes to change!? Thousands of media outlets around the world ? from 
the New York Times to CNN ? reported on our events. [1]

It?s well worth taking a moment to sit back and think about what we?ve 
managed to achieve together in such a short time. But new Commissioners will 
be decided by Members of European Parliament (MEPs) and EU countries already 
in the coming weeks. New MEPs will soon be sitting their first legislative 
sessions. And we will be ready.

Over the last European Parliament, we achieved greater things than we could 
even imagine: we got the EU to ban some single-use plastics and make 
producers pay for plastic pollution [2], and we ran a successful European 
Citizens? Initiative which overhauled the rules on transparency for 
potentially toxic pesticides, additives, and other food products. [3] We 
even got MEPs to strengthen rules on their own transparency! [4] And we?ve 
done so much more.

But we can?t be complacent. This election was only one moment in the story 
of our movement. So, please keep an eye out for our upcoming actions ? 
together we?ve made a real difference in this election, and together we?ll 
help to shape the course of our next five years.

Europe?s progress on climate change has been held back before by the election of less than desirable leaders. In 2014, a Spanish oil baron, Arias Ca?ete was appointed as the EU Commissioner for Climate and Energy.

Before this, Ca?ete had greenlighted drilling for oil in the clean, beautiful waters of the Canary Islands. As Commissioner, he rolled out the red carpet for dirty fossil fuel industries, in his first months in office meeting with them 7 times more than with public interest groups. [2]

Breaking on Unearthed: Satellite imagry reveals human activity linked to vast majority of catastrophic Siberian fires
Wildfires that ravaged millions of hectares of land and forests in Russia last year may have been caused by so-called ?prescribed burning? ? a controversial practice intended to prevent the spread of forest fire.

That?s according to a new analysis of 2018?s Siberian wildfires carried out by GIS specialists at Greenpeace?s Global Mapping Hub, who found that the overwhelming majority of those fires started close to places where people travel, work or live, or to sites of deliberate ?prescribed burnings?.

Across the four regions studied the proportion of fires fitting into this category ranged from 65% in Krasnoyarsk Krai to 99% in Amur Oblast. In that province alone, around a quarter of the fires identified ? with a burned area of 2.8 million hectares ? were spatially linked to areas where the forestry service had conducted prescribed burnings. The mapping hub said this indicated that the prescribed burnings ?either caused fires, or did not fulfil their intended function, which is to prevent the burning of dry forests?.

In each of the four regions analysed, a number of wildfires were spatially linked with logging sites, with the total burned area of these fires ranging from 139,000 hectares in Zabaykalsky Krai to 200,000 hectares in Amur Oblast.
