      Two Steps for 2020
ACT: Tell Congress "Don't Nuke the Climate!"

      and

SUPPORT: Help NIRS Stop the Nuclear Relapse in 2020.

Dear Friend,

The nuclear industry is furiously working for a a Nuclear Power Relapse in 2020. They want to roll back safety and environmental regulations, and to push through new laws that would keep us dependent on poison power for decades to come. The stakes could not be higher for our country, our environment, and our health and safety next year.

We can and must stop them, and we can’t wait for the 2020 elections to do it. Nuclear corporations and their government backers want to get it all done now—while they think the public is only paying attention to impeachment and the presidential campaigns.

We need you to take two actions now:

1.. ACT: Tell Congress to wake up: Stop wasting time and money on nuclear power--we need real climate solutions now! NIRS is kicking off a new campaign to stop the Nuclear Relapse in 2020. The solutions to nuclear power and global warming both start with moving as fast as possible to safe, clean, 100% renewable energy. We need to inform our members of Congress—and make sure they act! The best way to do that is for each of us to contact our Representative and Senators. Repeatedly. NIRS will send out regular action alerts, each with a new message, so you can educate your members of Congress step-by-step. We can't afford nuclear power or climate change, and we definitely can't afford them together.

2.. SUPPORT: Help NIRS build this campaign by making a donation. NIRS needs your support to Stop the Nuclear Relapse and build our momentum in 2020. In fact, we need our community to up the ante and contribute more. Next year, people will be donating more than ever to political campaigns. And rightly so! But we have to make sure NIRS stays strong, too, and that we are able to keep up the fight.
Time is of the essence. We are now facing two simultaneous global environmental crises: climate change and radioactive waste. And we don’t have the luxury to deal with one and not the other. The world can’t afford nuclear power or climate change, and we definitely can’t afford them together.

If the industry succeeds in pushing its agenda before the election, the damage could be irreparable afterward. And whatever the outcomes at the polls next November, we need to get to work now to make sure the next Congress … the next presidency … the next state legislatures and governorships … have the backing and the confidence—and, yes, the pressure, too—to say no to nuclear power and radioactive waste.

ACT: Tell Congress to wake up. "Stop wasting time and money on nuclear power--we need real climate solutions now!"

With your support and the courageous work of grassroots activists around the country, we have had key victories in 2019. 40 years after the meltdown of the Three Mile Island unit 2 reactor in Pennsylvania, the unit 1 reactor shut down in September. And Massachusetts went nuclear-free in May when the Pilgrim reactor shut down after 47 years. There are only 96 reactors operating in the US, and more reactors will close in 2020 and in the years to come.

But only if we can Stop the Nuclear Relapse. That is why we need your support now.

SUPPORT: Please make a donation to help us build our campaign in 2020.

If you already took action, please do so again.

Thanks for all you do!

Tim Judson
