The Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth held a meeting called “Climate Talk” on December 21 at the office of Rural Development Agency in Misaktsieli. The aim of the event was to offer journalists the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts on climate change.
During the meeting, experts of the Greens Movement of Georgia and journalists discussed the general aspects of climate change: its manifestation in the world and in Georgia, mitigation and adaptation technologies at global and local levels, human impacts on climate change and vice versa - climate change impacts on people; To what extent the public is aware of the risks associated with climate change, how individuals react to these risks and how the public reacts to the authorities - special attention was paid to the important role of the media in raising public awareness.
The participants also discussed the challenges they face personally when working on environmental issues. They also expressed interest in receiving more information on climate change and related issues, and noted that such meetings would enable them to gain further information on current climate change processes around the world. They emphasized the importance of the participation of many journalists from Georgia at COPs and similar international events as well the correct understanding and presentation of the climate problem; Meeting attendees came up with the initiative to set up a "Climate Talking Fireplace" meeting cycle.
Journalists were introduced to renewable technologies such as solar water heaters, biomass plants, PV modules on the RCDA site, the current situation, prospects and opportunities for their dissemination in Georgia.
The meeting was held within the framework of project “Increasing Energy Efficiency through Solar Energy Technologies and Thermal Insulation” supported by the German Federal Environment Foundation and the project "Strengthening Civil Society in the implementation of national climate policy” implemented by the Greens Movement of Georgia/friends of the Earth in cooperation with Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland e.V.
