In Ethiopia, for a day planted over 350 million trees to combat climate
change
The Ethiopian authorities have decided to fight climate change through the
mass planting of trees. This was reported by the BBC. For twelve hours were
planted more than 353 million plants. Updates about how many trees already
planted in his Twitter publishes head of the Ministry of Innovation and
Technology Getahun Mekuriya. The head of the initiative "Green Heritage" was
the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abijah Ahmed Ali, who himself also planted
some trees. Some government offices were closed today, the officials took
part in the project.

According to the UN, at the beginning of the XX century 35% of Ethiopia was
covered with trees. In the 2000s, their number had dropped to 4%. The
initiative "Green Heritage" takes place in thousands of cities across the
country. The main objective of the project - land 4 billion plant. Also, the
Ethiopian government say that by planting as many trees per day, they set a
new world record. In 2016, a similar record was recorded in India, whereas
800 thousand volunteers per day planted over 50 million trees. As reported
by the BBC, critics of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia has claimed that with
the help of "green" initiatives it distracts people from other problems in
the country - for example, severe ethnic conflicts.
